Jessup 2013: Compromis Released | A Disorganised Mind

Jessup 2013: Compromis Released. September 19, 2012 – 12:50 pm. The Jessup Compromis for 2013 has been released. The Compromis deals with four interlinked issues. Firstly, whether a state can continue to exist if it has no defined territory. Secondly, whether the treatment and proposed transfer of refugees complied with international refugee law and finally, whether the seizure of state funds deposited with a bank in the other territory is in compliance with international law. I did Jessup in 2008 too...

A Fire to be Kindled: July 2006
http://motalib.blogspot.com/2006_07_01_archive.html
A Fire to be Kindled. Words Are All I Have. Wednesday, July 19, 2006. Oh, Vanity Fair. I would recommend to my reader, the book Vanity Fair by William Thackeray. The mix of personality is wider in. The pool of opportunity smaller and the people out to take advantage of the opportunities correspondingly more dangerous. I’m sure such sharks swim in. Streams, but they do not trouble my deep resting there. Posted by Mohammed Talib. Saturday, July 15, 2006. I perceive that it is the sum of his actions, some d...

A Fire to be Kindled. Words Are All I Have. Tuesday, February 27, 2007. An Introduction to American Law. My first real brush with American law was Lawrence v. Texas. 539 US. 558 (2003), a high profile case at the time that was cited in before the Hong Kong High Court in Leung TC William Roy v. The Secretary of Justice. The facts in Lawrence v. Texas. I’ve also started slowly investigating for myself the creation/evolution debates (deserving a post of its own later) and as part of that I read the re...

A Fire to be Kindled: April 2006
http://motalib.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html
A Fire to be Kindled. Words Are All I Have. Wednesday, April 26, 2006. It's an odd sensation that has been building up for the past 6-8 months for me, and in hindsight I can see the wide range of influences that are pushing me to consider this as a course of action. Language is just one mean of expressing yourself, and in a way I feel a bit over compartmentalised and deficient, that I don’t have the ability to employ what is perhaps the most primordial and powerful method of human expression. Turn up, bl...

The Magic of the Common Law | A Disorganised Mind
https://motalib.wordpress.com/2013/06/09/the-magic-of-the-common-law
The Magic of the Common Law. June 9, 2013 – 3:15 pm. Three things strike me as being embedded into the common law. The first is its commitment to the past. The common law answers every question with an answer based on what it has done before. The magic of precedent is that it looks out to the past to provide a starting point to answer a present question. Click to print (Opens in new window). Click to email (Opens in new window). A Fire to be Kindled. Words Are All I Have. Wednesday, August 30, 2006. Over time this fascination lapsed. I stopped the academic study of history, got enthralled by the more sociological and meta-historical purpose that authors such as Jared Diamond or Paul Kennedy saw in the tapestry of history. The many histories of many places compiled together to reveal history’s response to. I am drawn towards the Antiquities, the history of the ancient world as we so scantily know it. The power of. And the assassi...

A Fire to be Kindled. Words Are All I Have. Monday, January 15, 2007. Today I did something that I didn’t see myself ever doing: I left FMGamer. As was recently said to me, sentiment, nostalgia and inertia can be powerful things, but I do not believe they are good reasons to retain my official involvement with FMG. I have been involved with the site since late 2002, through brilliant highs and incredible lows, but I have come to accept that those are largely for me a thing of the past. Poised over the ke...

Two American Lives – Lincoln & Franklin | A Disorganised Mind
https://motalib.wordpress.com/2013/05/05/two-american-lives-lincoln-franklin
Two American Lives – Lincoln & Franklin. May 5, 2013 – 9:49 pm. A brief mention of two books that I’ve been reading over the month of April. The first is Team of Rivals which is a biography of Abraham Lincoln. The second is Benjamin Franklin: An American Life. These are two American lives that have fascinated me. Two lives destined to belong to the ages. And yet even that is an understatement of the highest order. Lincoln had enormous vision. His hard won gifts of charm, public speaking, man mana...Linco...

A Fire to be Kindled. Words Are All I Have. Tuesday, January 10, 2006. The current principle is a simple one of the art of persuasion, and I would not think myself remiss to say that it is the most fundamental one. The idea is simple, and has been said in a famous quote by Adam Smith in his Wealth of Nations that I have used previously in my meandering scribbles. It goes simply:. While I was previously condemning. But it subtly demands greater things of us. It requires a sacrifice of the ego, an aban...
