My mother left behind everything she knew when she was just shy of 35 years old. She threw the baby out with the bath water and headed East, in the hopes of finding new life. One could hardly blame her — when the life you lead breaks your heart into a million pieces over and over again, sometimes there’s no other option. I. That little baby, and I couldn’t blame her. Sure, I might have back then, but I certainly don’t now. April 14, 2014. April 14, 2014. Hey There, Sports Fans. Tomorrow the Jays play the...

I think it’s funny how different life can be from one moment to the next. Things can change so easily and so quickly and there is usually little room for preparedness. An entire summer has passed since the last time I felt inspired enough to put my fingers to the keys, and I can easily and happily say that I feel like a new season has come upon me–and it’s a good one. I mean, I’m meant to be a missionary for goodness sake! And I think you can agree that the guilt and the shame is too much to bear. My hea...

After the death of Lazarus, Jesus was brought to his tomb by Mary and Martha, women that Jesus cared for deeply. As you can imagine, Mary and Martha were weeping and mourning the loss of their dear brother, and Scripture tells us that Jesus was. By this event. Many puffed-up religious leaders watched as Jesus let go of his composure and wept with the sisters, and it was evident to them that Jesus genuinely loved these people. We understand the depth to which He cared when we read that Jesus. This is why ...

Little Lady in a Big World: The Past Tense Testimony
http://beccavdk.blogspot.com/2014/10/the-past-tense-testimony.html
The Past Tense Testimony. Evangelical Christians have developed a rather confusing habit when it comes to sharing testimonies. We have a tendency to prefer telling dramatic stories about dark, reckless pasts turned around at a sudden moment to grab the attention of the crowd and stir their emotions rather than describe the ebb and flow of real-life faith stories. The more dramatic the conversion story, the better. The typical story tends to go like this:. 1 I thought I was a Christian, but. Many Christia...

Encouraging, Living, Reaching. Wandering Away and Confession of Sin. 8220;For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16 ESV). I went out for a walk one Easter morning about 5 years ago, and as I was crossing over one of my city’s main bridges, I happened to notice what looked like a small cat wandering off the walkway into the bushes. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them etern...

do we weep? – shirefolk

June 16, 2015. June 16, 2015. After the death of Lazarus, Jesus was brought to his tomb by Mary and Martha, women that Jesus cared for deeply. As you can imagine, Mary and Martha were weeping and mourning the loss of their dear brother, and Scripture tells us that Jesus was. Yet so often as Christians we live with hardened hearts. We slather on coats of jargon, judgement, and self-righteousness that act as a lacquer, sealing our hearts from entering into the brokenness of others. This is why sometimes pe...

You’ve heard it before. You’re lamenting over a very embarrassing or difficult time in your life with a friend of yours and they hit you with it: the after-the-fact-advice. It comes in the form of a very subtle “I told you so” or an “I always thought…” and your head starts to spin. You think back to the aforementioned time in your life, and you try to comb through every instance in which your friend offered you wisdom or advice. And just as you thought. There wasn’t a single one. We offer our two cents?

Let me know what you think and leave me some suggestions of bands I just HAVE to listen to! 1 The Head and the Heart — amazing band. folky and acoustic, brilliant lyrics. Saw them in concert on Halloween. 2 Local Natives — these guys have been around for a while but released a new album recently. amazing live performers. 3 The Civil Wars — everyone’s heard of them, but their new album is actually just magical. MAGICAL. 8 Flogging Molly — Irish punk music. Enough said. Also, in case you didn’t reali...
