Below The Cutoff: 9 Things You Remember if You Showed in the 80s

http://www.belowthecutoff.com/2015/06/9-things-you-remember-if-you-showed-in.html

Jun 14, 2015. 9 Things You Remember if You Showed in the 80s. By Kim Ablon Whitney. 1 Rocking the rust breeches. 2 When you were forced to wear a chinstrap. 3 Going to a different show each week. 4 The USEF was the AHSA. 5 Nearly every trainer smoked. 6 Competing on grass was the norm, sometimes courses even had hills, and you didn't scratch when it rained. 7 Riders prepared their own horses for the ring. 8 Even local shows gave beautiful silver plates and trophies. Below The Cutoff: A Letter to My Daughter Before the Finals

http://www.belowthecutoff.com/2015/09/a-letter-to-my-daughter-before-finals.html

Sep 18, 2015. A Letter to My Daughter Before the Finals. It's Finals time once again. Because I'm a well-trained horse show mom I'll be appropriately stationed in the stands as you venture to the in-gate. As I watch you enter the ring,. I won't be able to help thinking back to all those other trips to the in-gate you've made over the years. I'll remember the short stirrup years when nine times out of ten you picked up the wrong lead but got a ribbon anyway (probably for cuteness). Jordan in the ponies.

May 9, 2016. Don't Ever Trash Talk My School Horse. Dear Person Who Disparaged My School Horse,. I suggest that you spend several years of your. Life saving money by singing in dive bars, giving beginner lessons, leading trail rides (don't forget to get bucked off onto the hood of a yellow cab while crossing Central Park West. That is an experience not to be missed! Waiting tables, and eating SpaghettiOs out of the can to buy a fleet of horses to begin a program with. You will ignore the pain in your own...

Below The Cutoff: 10 Trends in the Eq Finals Over the Years

http://www.belowthecutoff.com/2016/11/10-trends-in-eq-finals-over-years.html

Nov 14, 2016. 10 Trends in the Eq Finals Over the Years. By Kim Ablon Whitney. It's been nearly 25 years since I rode in the equitation finals. 25 years! Besides being nearly impossible to believe, from the results of the interceding years, I've noticed some trends. 1 Boys win proportionally more times than girls. Why do boys win so often? Is it because they stand-out from all the girls? Is it because they tend to be physically stronger? 2 Professionals' kids have an edge toward the win. It's all those h...

Below The Cutoff: Horse Show Etiquette Do's and Don'ts -- Part II, Courtesy & Safety

http://www.belowthecutoff.com/2016/11/horse-show-etiquette-dos-and-donts-part.html

Nov 2, 2016. Horse Show Etiquette Do's and Don'ts - Part II, Courtesy and Safety. There's nothing I enjoy more than horse showing. Let’s keep our horse shows safe and enjoyable for all. Pay attention in schooling rings. Clearly communicate with other riders. Crowd others, both in the schooling ring and in the hack class. Leave space in the model. Have ringside awareness. Be considerate. Don’t make loud noises or sudden movements while a horse or pony is on course. Walk your animals on the horse paths.

I live in Newton, Massachusetts with my husband, three kids, and my hound/lab rescue dog, Macie. I have published three novels with Random House: See You Down The Road. The Other Half of Life,. And The Perfect Distance. Came out in 2005 and in 2014 I decided to update it to include some changes in society in general (like Facebook and texting) and changes in the horse show world in particular, and republish it myself as an e-book. Me at the Talent Search Finals. Spruce liked the jumpers much better and w...

Questions for the Weekend. Posted in General Hockey. On 09/24/2010 by Ben Gilbert. First off, I am very grateful to J.J. and to all those who took the time to check out my “in-house” report on the Wings-Pens game yesterday and for the support I received. How did the Flying Circus look in their first performance this year? How did Mattias Ritola’s play? Was Pittsburgh a one-off or was he still showing important offensive flashes? How was Mike Modano’s reception at JLA? Did he look excited? Tomorrow’...

Raising A Child That Doesn't Eat. When I see other children eating, I can't help but to stare in awe. I watch children eat and wonder when will. Child devour a meal or drink a sippy cup dry? My daughter is one of the few children who don’t eat. If I’m lucky, she may consume an ounce of food/milk a day (she only lets me feed her soup) but other days, she doesn’t eat or drink anything. Struggle we face with our daughter and our patience is really tested. The question I get frequently? I love this question!

Dec 29, 2016. Making a Difference One Stride at a Time. When Mahatma Gandhi once said, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others,” I feel he was promoting a life of human goodness. As 2016 comes to a close and we embark on the new year, there's no better time to take stock of what you are doing for others. As junior riders we are very busy. We're balancing riding and school and spend many days away from home. But that doesn't mean we can't help others. Every February my ...
