ben and birdy: Thai-style Squash Salad with Masses of Herbs
http://benandbirdy.blogspot.com/2015/03/thai-style-squash-salad-with-masses-of.html
Monday, March 16, 2015. Thai-style Squash Salad with Masses of Herbs. You are lovely, you are. How many times have you shored me up? About losing her. I hope to write more. But also, I am eating. Cooking and eating. My friend died, I slept for a thousand hours, and then I returned, hollow and blinking in the light, to the world of the living, where people expect to be fed, and where I like to feed them and to eat. Thai-style Squash Salad with Masses of Herbs. 188; cup melted coconut oil (or vegetable oil).
ben and birdy: Savory Lemon Jam
http://benandbirdy.blogspot.com/2011/04/savory-lemon-jam.html
Monday, April 18, 2011. Does it not look like magic? Because it is. Completely. Wait until you try it, really. You're going to think: The whole lemon? Where's the part where I remove the pitch and those membraney things? I'm so happy to be posting this, because it's been on my list of things to tell you for over a year, but other recipes kept barging ahead, demanding to be written about. But here it is, now, which is all that really matters. On an unrelated note: Did you want to know how old Ben is?
ben and birdy: Wild Weed Quesadillas + 7 Asparagus Recipes
http://benandbirdy.blogspot.com/2015/05/wild-weed-quesadillas-6-asparagus.html
Tuesday, May 12, 2015. Wild Weed Quesadillas 7 Asparagus Recipes. Quesadillas with raw garlic mustard leaves, steamed cattail shoots, and sauteed daylily greens. I have written about foraging before. Here. My Mother's Day card from Birdy. Inside it says, "I can't wait to continue eating our way through the outdoors." ("Yew (oops! Refers to a poisonous little incident we once got ourselves into. A story for another day.). Recipe, and it was perfect. I'll recommend, again, the marvelous Backyard Foraging.
ben and birdy: Caramel Apple Upside-Down Cake
http://benandbirdy.blogspot.com/2014/10/caramel-apple-upside-down-cake.html
Tuesday, October 07, 2014. Caramel Apple Upside-Down Cake. Even this "perfect" one seems to have some displaced apples. I just pitched a piece to a women’s magazine about my schizophrenic kale-Cheezits relationship to food and eating. Jolly Ranchers and buckwheat groats; bar-room chicken wings and raw kohlrabi. “Interesting! 8221; the editor wrote back. “But what’s the take-away. We’re not getting such a clear sense of it.” That is a good and important question! The topping has cooled and stuck, and you ...
ben and birdy: Crack Broccoli
http://benandbirdy.blogspot.com/2012/01/crack-broccoli.html
Wednesday, January 04, 2012. Picture a lemon wedge off to the side. Right? Only my friend Maddie could make a vegetable that would get nicknamed “Crack Broccoli”—and that would be the first thing to disappear at a party where it was placed among such delights as chips and dip, oozing triple-cream cheese, and ginger-prosecco cocktails. Children literally shoved aside bowls of candy. And I am sharing it here, now, because I am not a juice-fast-January kind of person. But I am a vegetable. Return the baking...

Hark! What Ails You?: Daylight Savings is Costing Me...
http://maeisaac.blogspot.com/2008/03/daylight-savings-is-costing-me.html
An attempt to explain myself through words. Sunday, March 09, 2008. Daylight Savings is Costing Me. TIME - um, maybe not. MONEY - true, I did have extra time to shop today. SLEEP - that's it! Thank goodness this madness begins on a weekend, because I seriously needed some extra sleep this morning! I've been trying all day to get my schedule on this phony-baloney time change and all I can say is that tomorrow had better go smoother than today! This is going to be the longest winter ever. Hark! What Ails You?: July 2007
http://maeisaac.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html
An attempt to explain myself through words. Sunday, July 08, 2007. Shameful meme copying - but I have to give Mim. All the credit for this one! Use the 1st letter of your name to answer each of the following…They MUST be real places, names, things…nothing made up! Try to use different answers if the person in front of you had the same 1st initial. You can’t use your name for the boy/girl name question. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (sad, I know). The Chabot 5: August 2010
http://chabot5.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Monday, August 23, 2010. Summer Snapshots: Crater Lake. On our way up to Sunriver, we stopped by Crater Lake! Thursday, August 19, 2010. Summer Snapshots: The Fourth of July. We got the houses ready for the party. We started the fourth, as always, with the local parade. But this time we marched in the parade instead of watching! Later that day, it was time for our annual party! Wednesday, August 18, 2010. Summer Snapshots: Before we went to Oregon. In other news, Nick lost his first tooth!
The Chabot 5: October 2009
http://chabot5.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
Monday, October 19, 2009. Wow, I was doing pretty well there for a couple of weeks and then I really fell off the radar, didn't I? I've got some cute soccer pictures to show you from Opening Day. we're enjoying watching the kids improve, but not so much enjoying watching Nick get over the novelty of soccer practice and decide he's no longer interested in participating in certain drills. Blerg. It seems like he still loves the games, though. And Julianna likes it all, especially when she plays Goalie.

Friday, September 18, 2009. Picnic in "Park Grandma". Monday, September 14, 2009. Nick's first day in Room 2! Nick started another year of preschool this morning! He is going MWF mornings again. This year he is in Room 2, with Mrs. Shallcross - just like Julianna! His buddy Sean is in the same class, as well as Nicolas and Tomas, friends from Room 7. He had a good day. No troubles saying goodbye to mom, and lots of playing with friends! It meant they would have a good year in Room 2! Nick and Julianna ha...
The Chabot 5: August 2009
http://chabot5.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Monday, August 31, 2009. School starts tomorrow, and I am none too pleased to be saying goodbye to summer. This summer was just so great! A nice mix of structured activities and free, unscheduled time. I'm going to have "First Day of School" pictures to post here tomorrow, I guess, so what I'm going to do is post a picture of something from TODAY and then also a picture from the summer (aaaaaah). I plan to do that tomorrow, too, and then we'll see where it goes from there! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

'the hell?: December 2009
http://rivetergirl.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Thursday, December 31, 2009. 2009: A recap odyssey. As I sit here attempting to sum up this year, 2009, I'm overcome by a few strong sensations. First is happiness. I have two really good jobs that I really like (I never really understood that idea of working at a job that made you unhappy), a devoted husband (again never understood staying with someone who didn't make you happy), a stepson of which I'm immensely proud and a daughter who blows my socks off in oh-so-many ways. And that's just what we did.

Tuesday, March 06, 2018. Slivered Collards with Brown-Butter Pepperoncini Vinaigrette and Toasted Breadcrumbs. I got the idea of making a raw collard salad, like the kindof kale we all know and love. From the “Shaved Collard Greens with Cashews and Pickled Peppers” recipe in the the exciting, inspiring book Six Seasons: A New Way with Vegetables. Which I have now had to return to the library (sigh). I am also reading this book. And it is so, so deliciously good. Up over at Motherwell? Toast the crumbs: M...

Saturday, February 6, 2010. Our Little Pudding Pop. Just wanted to post a few pictures of Mary Bishop really enjoying her pudding that she had for dessert the other night. She definitely prefers "Chocolate" over "Vanilla"! She had so much fun eating the pudding with her spoon at first.then she discovered it tasted even better with her sweet little hands! Needless to say, we headed straight to the big girl tub after this pudding palooza! But oh what sweet memories! Monday, December 7, 2009. Guess like eve...
