Mount Otake | In the Nick of Time

In the Nick of Time. Bad Poem or Pop Song? The view from the scenic picnic spot at Mount Mitake. Fall may be the best time to hike in Japan. Not sure if I mentioned this before, but I like to drink when I go hiking. This was definitely the case when my hiking buddy Joe and I climbed Mount Otake in western Tokyo last week. When you drink and hike at the same time you end up with a lot of pictures of trees. Last Monday, Nov. 18, we got up early and didn’t miss our first train out of Nakano –...We caug...

http://laurenaldrich.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
April 6, 2011. Here's a photo of the beginning stages of my next sprayed painting. I'm building background layers here. Got some new cans of paint in awesome colors today. Went slice-silly with some new original stencils, too. I'm having a ball! I think I'll be able to whip out some snazzy pictures in less than half the time it usually takes me to finish a painting. Woohoo! Posted by Lauren Aldrich. April 5, 2011. The spray paint bug bit me! Thanks to the influence of stencil artist Aaron Brick. Perhaps ...

Lauren Aldrich: The spray paint bug bit me!
http://laurenaldrich.blogspot.com/2011/04/spray-paint-bug-bit-me.html
April 5, 2011. The spray paint bug bit me! Thanks to the influence of stencil artist Aaron Brick. I recently purchased a few cans of Montana spray paint (the artist-grade brand that you can't find in hardware stores). I have cut a couple smaller stencils and played around with those with somewhat disappointing results, but the other night I decided to tackle a larger piece (see image below) and use only a large abstract, blob-shaped stencil with which to make rounded shapes. In the Nick of Time. Bad Poem or Pop Song? Newer posts ». 10 stupid things you must not do in your 20s. Apparently I started writing this two years ago when I was drunk and passed out halfway before finishing. Anyway. I finished it. I just read this really stupid article on another website titled “The 10 most foolish things you don’t want to do in your 20s.” In the first sentence the author admits to being only 24 years old. Which is what I’m going write right here. Know what my friends with kids did?

Halloween in Tokyo: A mistake or brilliance? | In the Nick of Time

In the Nick of Time. Bad Poem or Pop Song? Halloween in Tokyo: A mistake or brilliance? The crazy kids in Shibuya went all out for Halloween this year. They weren’t the only Tokyoites to go bananas for the holiday as parents and kids got involved for the first time. My friend and brilliant photographer Lukasz Palka was kind enough to share his photos with us. Find more of his work at Lkpalka.com. Yesterday, Tuesday, Oct. 29, my wife Lisa and I had the following text exchange:. Still, I was surprised it w...

Mount Kobo | In the Nick of Time

In the Nick of Time. Bad Poem or Pop Song? The viewing/picnic area on the way to the summit of Mount Kobo. My wife told one of her girlfriends that I am going hiking to Mount Tanzawa next weekend. Her friend replied, “Kawaii! For those statewide, that means “cute.”. There is even a cultural phenomena called “yamagarru” (mountain girls). These college-aged girls can be found on every hiking trail, dressed from head to toe in brightly colored, brand new hiking gear. Very cute. Mount Kobo was kawaii. Having...
