Assessing the existing digital history of 19th Century Military History. Today’s project is to assess the existing digital history of my research topic. My research interest is in 19. Century American Military History, specifically the post-Civil War professionalization of the Army. That seems a little broad for an internet search, but Google’s fast so let’s see what it produces before I narrow it down to something more specific and searchable. Century American Military History. Century this includes two...

Monthly Archives: December 2014. You are browsing the site archives by month. Mapping the Army: Professionalization and 19th Century Army Posts (Final Project Blog). After using different combinations of data and functions, I decided that the best visualization of my data for my purposes was to actually make use of three separate maps/data sets:. With under 100 soldiers. By 1896, 20 Forts, over 25% of active posts, held over 500 soldiers and only 6 held less than 100 soldiers. On Images and Photography (...

Mapping the Campaigns of the 1st Michigan Cavalry (Week 7 Practicum). Mapping (Week 7 Readings). Visualization Tools (Week 6 Practicum). Uploading the data into Palladio should be quick and easy, but since I’m a Windows user it wasn’t. Originally the data uploaded fine, but wouldn’t display in the graph screen. I was able to get it to work by switching from Internet Explorer to Google Chrome. RAW allows more options for visualization, but once again with only this limited data set only a few are useful&#...

Age and Color (Week 8 Readings). This week’s readings were almost entirely tutorial in nature, and complemented the practical exercise we worked on in class last week. While last week’s readings dealt with some of the ethical issues surrounding the alteration of photos, this week’s tutorials accepted as given that in today’s Photoshop world we will be changing aspects of images to fit our design goals, and focused on going over some best practices for doing so. On March 23, 2015 at 1:01 am. On Color and ...

World War II Historian. D-Day, the Battle of the Bulge, and the Combat Infantryman. All posts by admin. Assignment Blog: Final Project 2. May 3, 2015. When viewed in Chrome, Firefox, and even IE, these symbols came out perfectly with the q code. I wanted ...

A brief return to Kansas. I’ve barely had time to settle back into the Pacific Northwest after about thirteen years away, and to attend stellar events like the Lilac City Fairy Tales. Reading in Spokane, and now I’ll be returning to Kansas to read myself at the end of October. I’m thrilled to be a part of Emporia State University’s Visiting Writers Series this fall. I’ll be reading in Emporia on October 24th at 7pm in the PKP room of the Memorial Union. I’ll also be reading from. An Amah in Victoria Park.
