Net and other musings. Ben Lovell, an agile developer living in the UK. Growl notifications with autotest made easy. Setting up a new project to use growl notification via autotest can be a bit tricky. There is a fantastic gem called growl-glue. That can simplify the whole procedure. Simply:. Sudo] gem install growl-glue. Then add the following lines to your .autotest file:. Initialize will accept a block containing a stack of different configuration options. Take a look at what is possible here.

Net and other musings. Ben Lovell, an agile developer living in the UK. Windows 7 on the new Aluminium MacBook via Boot Camp. I’ve spent a lazy Sunday afternoon installing the latest Windows 7 beta on my MacBook via BootCamp and everything has gone swimmingly. To install I had to:. Burn the ISO. I chose the 32 bit edition. Run the boot camp assistant on OSX to partition the drive. I created a 45GB partition for my initial experiments. Reboot the machine with the installation DVD in place. January 18, 2009.

I’ll be following it at macrumorslive.com. And on twitter via macrumors. I’m hoping to see a new mac-mini which will supplant the Apple TV I have sitting in my front room. Other notable rumours:. MacBook Pro 17″ refresh. Should be moving to unibody design, possibly announcements of quad-core. Mini DisplayPort added across the board.
MVC Storefront | .net and other musings
https://benl.wordpress.com/2008/04/29/mvc-storefront
Net and other musings. Ben Lovell, an agile developer living in the UK. Has been posting a series of screencasts. Featuring the development of an ASP.NET MVC based product catalogue. This is being carried out in a “TDD” like fashion. The interesting difference between his posts and mine (apart from the obvious fact that I’m lazy and haven’t screencasted… yet) is that he starts from the bottom of the stack and works upwards towards the UI where as I do the opposite. https://andypike.wordpress.com/2010/02/28/introducing-castlecasts
It’s been a very long time since I lasted blogged but I’ve found some time and would like to take this opportunity to announce Castlecasts. After doing a lot of learning in Ruby on Rails, one of the best resources that I found was the www.railscasts.com. Site For those who don’t know, it contains over 200 screencasts about various aspects of programming in RoR. So I posted the idea of creating a similar site for the CastleProject which seemed to have some interest. Getting Started With MonoRail. I’...
Presenting at DevEvening | Andy Pike
https://andypike.wordpress.com/2009/02/02/presenting-at-devevening
So I went to my first DevEvening. Last week and found it very useful. I spoke to a few people about the tools and frameworks I’ve been working with and found that most people have either never heard of them or have no idea how to use them. After listening to the speakers, I was then inspired to present some of the things I do/use during day-to-day development. So I am going to be presenting at the next DevEvening:. For those that do come, please go easy on me and please no awkward questions ;o). You are ...
Tea-Driven Development :: How much do you refactor?
http://blog.mattwynne.net/2013/07/24/how-much-should-i-refactor
Matt Wynne taking it one tea at a time. 2013 07 24 }. How much do you refactor? Refactoring is probably the main benefit of doing TDD. Without refactoring, your codebase degrades, accumulates technical debt, and eventually has to be thrown away and rewritten. But how much refactoring is enough? How do you know when to stop and get back to adding new features? Image credit: Nat Pryce). Some people rely heavily on metrics. To guide their refactoring. I like the signals I get from metrics.
