Annie's Adventures: 07.2009
http://adventureannie.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Bike Tour Wrap Up. Overall the tour was incredible, and super challenging. I knew I could ride 1800 miles in two weeks, that was not the question. The question was how would I feel about it? So, here's some of the people I met. Then Dan and Brian. The father/son duo. Dan is so strong and Brian too. They were often quiet and kept to themselves, but they could hold their line and kept the pace reasonable when asked. They were steady. Then young Greg. Those eyes! Wow, he's going to be a heartbreaker when he...

Cyclophiliac: An unattained goal = more motivation to try again
http://cyclophiliac.blogspot.com/2015/04/an-unattained-goal-more-motivation-to.html
My cycling obsession, training philosophies, race reports, riding and running adventures, etc. Sunday, April 5, 2015. An unattained goal = more motivation to try again. Knowing what the wind is like out in the California desert, I reluctantly checked a weather report to see what was in store. Tomorrow's wind forecast: a steady 10 - 20 mph, with gusting 30 . Dammit. Tomorrow was our planned ride to Rhyolite. Certainly the longest ride of our week, and the most challenging. Even on a windless day. The trut...

Cyclophiliac: The Toughest 48 Hours in Sport
http://cyclophiliac.blogspot.com/2010/10/toughest-48-hours-in-sport.html
My cycling obsession, training philosophies, race reports, riding and running adventures, etc. Sunday, October 17, 2010. The Toughest 48 Hours in Sport. I met Tim Marks last February, at the AdventureCorps event in Death Valley. Tim's wife, Jill, and I rode together a lot (including the Century ride) while Tim went off with the other hammerheads, racking up the miles and riding their bikes as if they were stolen, and on fire. Tim just recently completed the infamous. A hellacious ultramarathon bike race.

Thursday, February 25, 2010. Matthew Haigh's Bangor Adventure, Part 2. For a map of the Bangor region, and a couple of photos, see Matthew's outbound post. Coming back from Bangor a day after riding there, I was woken up by heavy hail, which turned to snow as I ate breakfast. It had cleared by the time I ready to leave (10:30am), but whilst getting ready one of the zips on my bootees failed setting the scene for another day. Bridgenorth and Redditch came and went, but the 24 hour garage I’d been ai...

Annie's Adventures: Bike Tour Day 14 Clayton
http://adventureannie.blogspot.com/2009/07/bike-tour-day-14-clayton.html
Bike Tour Day 14 Clayton. Today we rode the road the went on and on and on. We rolled out of Walsenburg extra early, at 6:00 am and the first 55 miles passed in a blink. It seems to do this every morning these days, we get 50 miles in and sort of ask ourselves, what just happened? Then the fun stopped. We got on the final road into Clayton, the John L. Morrow Memorial Highway, and we thought how grand, a 25 mph tailwind. We'll be in Clayton in no time! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Bike Tour Wrap Up.

Annie's Adventures: Larch Mountain
http://adventureannie.blogspot.com/2009/08/larch-mountain.html
Today Craig organized a small group of friends to ride up Larch Mountain. I decided to drive over to Craig's house and ride from there in hope of getting the 20 extra miles in that will allow me accumulate exactly 5000 for the year. This year my annual ride year ends at the end of August and I need to ride about 190 miles a week until then to make 5000 miles. Anyway, while we were leaning our bikes up outside the shop the sun came out and we were instantly too warm. Off came the jackets, arm warmers ...

Tuesday, May 10, 2011. Gospel According to Cancer, ChapterTwo. Chapter 2, Water into Wine. Dr Sarah Lulloff diagnosed an e-coli infection that seriously complicated my condition. If the cancer did not kill me sepsis could. Before chemo treatment began, I received seven blood transfusions, constant saline IV drip, and potent antibiotics. In the first several days, my body weight gained twenty pounds of fluid. 8221; and “where are you taking me? I was not the strongest or the youngest person to fight ALL, ...

Cyclophiliac: "Synchronized Suffering"
http://cyclophiliac.blogspot.com/2015/06/synchronized-suffering.html
My cycling obsession, training philosophies, race reports, riding and running adventures, etc. Saturday, June 20, 2015. That was Phil Liggett's description of the Team Time Trial, during the Tour de France some years back. I kind of like the idea of sharing the pain with a teammate. After all, what are teammates for? The Eastern Ohio Time Tria. I like the Individual (ITT) and Team (TTT) races. I've raced the TTT in prior seasons with another teammate, and that was a great experience. This year, I...For t...

My cycling obsession, training philosophies, race reports, riding and running adventures, etc. Sunday, February 27, 2011. DV Spring Century: The Fury. Saturday, Feb. 27, 2011. The good news is that the rain and cold that was predicted for today must have been canceled, because we woke up to clear skies and mild temperatures. That's all for the good news. This wasn't completely unexpected. But the force of it this early in the morning took us a little off guard (it wasn't yet 7 AM). You're in your lowest ...

Annie's Adventures: 07.2008
http://adventureannie.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html
I recently went down to Lake Tahoe for The Death Ride. This is a crazy endurance event covering 129 miles and 15000' of climbing. We stayed at a condo at the base of one of the Heavenly resort ski lifts. There were 5 of us there, 4 of us doing the ride. There was lots of “what are YOU bringing with you” and “I can’t believe how old your bike is! I’m not sure I agree since I saw 3 women coming down the 5. And would probably never get worn. : ).
