Bernadette by Bike: March 2010
http://bernadettebybike.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Welcome to Bernadette's adventures on two wheels. Please scroll down. Thanks! Friday, March 19, 2010. New Zealand is for the Birds. New Zealand is for the birds. It's true. I'm not talking about the crap weather or how the man who renewed my visa wore an 'I heart beer' t-shirt. I'm not talking about how no one wears shoes or the way everyone gives each other their bank account numbers. I'm talking about actual birds. I've never really paid too much attention to birds. This is a tui. Tuesday, March 2, 2010.

Welcome to Bernadette's adventures on two wheels. Please scroll down. Thanks! Monday, January 2, 2012. If you have been following, you will know that last March I left New Zealand. I am now happily living and working in New York. Being a wimp when it comes to the weather, this winter I have been pouring my energies into more sedentary pursuits. You can read about them here. Bernadette by Bike: December 2009
http://bernadettebybike.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Welcome to Bernadette's adventures on two wheels. Please scroll down. Thanks! Wednesday, December 16, 2009. When you think about it, yeast is very relevant this time of year. What else is all around us, turns water into wine, and reproduces asexually in virgins' wombs? Wednesday, December 9, 2009. Into town. They often remind me of Crazy Girl, because I'm sure as I 'Whee' and 'Whoohoo' my way downtown, I'm earning a similar nickname. Sunday, December 6, 2009. Something in the Air. But they knew something...
Bernadette by Bike: Time to think
http://bernadettebybike.blogspot.com/2010/05/time-to-think.html
Welcome to Bernadette's adventures on two wheels. Please scroll down. Thanks! Thursday, May 6, 2010. Brain space is in demand these days as the trimester comes to a close this month. I've been thinking about posting something, but haven't been able to think of what. The only news here is that winter has come and my feet are cold. Oh the laundry is done. I've got to hang it up before I run off to the library. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Past trips and other hobbies). New Quilts On The Block.

Welcome to Bernadette's adventures on two wheels. Please scroll down. Thanks! Friday, January 29, 2010. Hold on to your hats! I got a new computer. The switch to a mac continues to be a bit of a learning process. But hopefully good things are to come. The real question is, are you ready? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Past trips and other hobbies). Cycling in Hokkaido, Japan: In a tangle!
http://bernadetteinhokkaido.blogspot.com/2008/02/in-tangle.html
Cycling in Hokkaido, Japan. Tuesday, February 5, 2008. Ikeda, July 16th, 2007. I eventually found a hot bowl of ramen. As I was paying the bill the man at the counter told me "ramen from China, udon and soba from Japan." I tried to ask him why they were only serving ramen. He looked very confused. Finally I simply said, "the ramen is delicious." He looked happy with this. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Bernadette By Bike Home. Http:/ bernadettebybike.blogspot.com. Cycling in Hokkaido, Japan: Kicking back in Lake Kusharo
http://bernadetteinhokkaido.blogspot.com/2008/02/back-to-nakashibetsu_15.html
Cycling in Hokkaido, Japan. Friday, February 15, 2008. Kicking back in Lake Kusharo. Lake Kusharo, July 25th, 2007. Further from camp small clusters of patient bubbles rising and spilling their sweaty sulfur scent into the air. I parked the canoe and skinny dipped in behind the warm pink and grey rocks. stories from the road: fall
http://beerinmexico.blogspot.com/2008/08/fall.html
Saturday, August 30, 2008. I'm not as relaxed here as I'd like to be. Especially with the cold weather moving in. As the trailer gets colder, it reminds me that I need to be moving on soon. And moving on to what? Sometimes I'm completely ready to embrace the unknown next step. And other times, I feel like getting into that big unflattering sweater and curl up watching the swashbuckling Captain Horatio Hornblower. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Stories from the road. stories from the road: holiday cheer
http://beerinmexico.blogspot.com/2008/12/holiday-cheer.html
Saturday, December 13, 2008. It's been a long absence again, but not for lack of thinking about you all. I remained in Philly most of the past month - doing some long overdue catching up with friends and, shall we say, associates? Loved the social gatherings and, of course, joining in the creation of the 3rd 'Swarm Productions puppet show premiere: "Rocky MMVIII: Wherein the Italian Stallion Reflects upon the Ups and Downs of a Decidedly Tumultuous Year.". Mom and Dad, we'll discuss it later.). Wishing a...
stories from the road: home

Sunday, October 5, 2008. A long absence, my friends. Thank you to all of you who are keeping up now and then on my movements. So over the past four months, I've been getting tan, buff, and better able to wield a pitchfork. I've shared a lot of photos of beautiful places, had a lot of visits from loving and dedicated friends and family. I've gone kayaking, harvested some of the most beautiful food I've ever seen, and experienced a life of somewhat quiet trailer living. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
stories from the road: apartments

Monday, December 29, 2008. I've always liked how it sounds to stay you live in a "studio." Picturing someone poring over books or taking up the violin or draping wild swaths of paint across canvasses - or walls! The unfortunate reality of many studios is that they are tucked away at the end of dark hallways through small doorways and involve going to sleep in your kitchen and finding excuses to go to the bathroom just to have a change of scenery. I can be there at 10:00. 10:20? Stories from the road.
stories from the road: roots and blooms
http://beerinmexico.blogspot.com/2008/08/more-photos-today-we-hauled-in-over-70.html
Sunday, August 17, 2008. Today we hauled in over 70 pounds of squash - one weekend's worth of growth. Here's the thing about plants - sometimes they move faster than we do. Yesterday I learned that when a plant is blooming, it's putting effort into its bloom and not into its roots as much. So with flowers like dahlias (many of which are blooming at the farm), it can be hard to transplant them when they're blooming since they're not putting as much energy into their roots. Lovely week to all.
stories from the road: winners
http://beerinmexico.blogspot.com/2008/11/winners.html
Wednesday, November 5, 2008. When I set foot on the sidewalk, I noticed the unseasonably mild air, and then the noise. Horns honking, people yelling. I kept moving further into it - crowds of people. Back inside the hotel, the MoveOn.org election night partygoers were watching McCain give his concession speech. I couldn't listen. I was too excited about the street scene. Hearing me describe it, Jennine said, "Take me outside! And taking pictures and moving towards. So it turns out to be a good time to be...
stories from the road: moonlighting
http://beerinmexico.blogspot.com/2008/10/moonlighting.html
Wednesday, October 15, 2008. Oh, what to choose, what to choose? Which has made me want to learn more about experiences of disability. It's just that I'm getting tired. What do you do when you get tired? I've been struggling this past year with the tension between settling down and my fear of settling into something that may not make me happy. Walking into town this morning, I was wondering, if I stop struggling, which part do I stop struggling against? The settling down impulse, or the fear of settling?

Cycling in Hokkaido, Japan: Brrr!
http://bernadetteinhokkaido.blogspot.com/2008/02/brrr.html
Cycling in Hokkaido, Japan. Sunday, February 3, 2008. Biritori, Hokkaido, July 14th 2007. It was rough getting out of my sleeping bag this morning. Its just as cold today. But when I finally did, it was worth it, my new motorcycle gang friends had left me a bag of pears and bananas for breakfast. I hit the road around 8:30. The storeowner was very chatty. In Japanese. She even wrote her name (I think) and the date. So I wouldn’t forget her? Lunch was a bowl of ramen noodles with aside of typhoon on the w...
