Hands Digging up Roots

Hands Digging up Roots. Wednesday, October 28, 2009. It's Almost the Same Thing. But instead of rotting fish, the trail smells like rotting fruit. Instead of mosquitos, there are fruit flies. Instead of stopping to pick wild cranberries, I stop to shake a guava tree and catch the ripe ones that fall out. And instead of finding snow and ice and Dall sheep at the top of the mountain, I find a view of this green green island and the blue blue ocean all around. Links to this post. Hands Digging up Roots: December 2008

Mushroom of the Day. La Fungheria: The Mushroom Store. Links to this post. Wednesday, December 10, 2008. Not Quite Gregory Peck. I took the overnight train to Rome. It was the cheapest, and also afforded me the most time in the city. I left after my last class Thursday night and caught the 11:20 train. She put her camera away.

Hands Digging up Roots: Not Scared. Not Scared At All.

http://betsilynn.blogspot.com/2009/10/not-scared-not-scared-at-all.html

Hands Digging up Roots. Wednesday, October 21, 2009. Not Scared. Not Scared At All. This is what my sister says. What she means is: "This situation is not at all to my liking and there is a heck of a lot that could go wrong, but I've assessed all the factors and feel I can keep rising panic at bay.". Animals. The cold was threatening me from every angle but I kept repeating to my limbs: you are warm; you are. No winter for me! I needed to experience at least a taste of it before heading off to Hawaii.

Hands Digging up Roots: March 2009

http://betsilynn.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

Hands Digging up Roots. Tuesday, March 31, 2009. In Confirmation of My Earlier Theory. Then I heard another bird sound which is (but only recently) familiar to me: the Bald Eagle. The first time I heard it I was amazed that such a beautiful sound could come from such an ugly bird. No, I do not have any aesthetic loyalty towards our national bird (speaking of which, is there a national any other type of animal? The cry is exotic, expressive, untamable. They were, um, shall we say, Celebrating Spring.

Singing In The Rain: August 2009

http://saruta85.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html

Singing In The Rain. Sunday, August 16, 2009. A Year in Review: Part 2. 1) Living in the city:. This was not completely unexpected, but the influence of the city over my emotions definitely caught me a little off-guard. I think prior to this year, I would have said that I didn't care where I lived - city, suburb, a more rural area - as long as I was near close friends. The people were much more important than the location. And, while I still believe the previous statement,. But I think I had more cause t...

Singing In The Rain: What They Hear

http://saruta85.blogspot.com/2010/01/what-they-hear.html

Singing In The Rain. Tuesday, January 26, 2010. I talk a lot. Anyone who knows me will find the fact that I had to state that funny - that's how much I talk. It's a given. I also talk fast, which means that in a given day I say a LOT of words to a lot of people, but particularly my students. You remember on Charlie Brown, how none of the adults had faces - they all just sounded like this constant, sharp drone? C: Do I have to check this? Ms Stuntz: Well, what do the directions say? Thanks Ms. Stuntz!

Singing In The Rain. Thursday, November 26, 2009. Why I Am Thankful for Thanksgiving Break: A Recap. This is the governor of Massachusetts, Deval Patrick. In case you cannot tell, I am sitting reading Tennyson outside of Notre Dame in Paris. You know, the usual. I am very sophisticated. Which is why, when I met the governor last week, I was completely calm and mature and prepared and looked something like this:. By my handshake in that moment. It was pretty.special. Singing In The Rain. Sunday, March 14, 2010. A Letter to Myself, Five Years Ago/from Now. Reason #679 to live on the East Coast: the Bolt Bus. Friends, seriously, this is amazing. I am currently typing this blog entry while on a bus from NYC that I could have. Boarded for only $1, had I been savvy enough, but even with my relative lack of skills I managed to get this ticket for less than $20. End of public service announcement. What if I don't like my major? Who's going to employ an English major anyways?

Gas to get to the mall to buy printer ink: $3. Printer ink: $64 (ouch). Comfy t-shirts that I didn't intend to buy but I was at the mall and they were also so cheap: $30. http://saruta85.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

Singing In The Rain. Thursday, December 24, 2009. The Meaning of "Emmanuel". Tonight at church we sang, as we do every Christmas Eve, "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel." But it was different this year, and I realized from now on it will be different every year than it was in years before. Do it again. Why, given my complete lack of a promising track record, would God choose me? The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him, 'Immanuel,' which means 'God with us.'". Can a mothe...

Singing In The Rain. Wednesday, September 23, 2009. I think someone is trying to tell me something. I posted that last diatribe, my "check engine" light came on. My first thought was, "Uh oh, maybe my car is trying to tell me something? And then immediately my second thought was, "Actually, Sarah, that's exactly. What it's trying to do. The manufacturer made it with these little warning lights. So I had a good laugh at my own expense (hey, if no one else is around, someone. Sunday, September 20, 2009.
