Battle Hymns: Book Review: Heart-Shaped Box
http://bhymns.blogspot.com/2013/01/book-review-heart-shaped-box.html
A blog covering the epic spectrum of books, graphic novels and music. Tuesday, January 29, 2013. Book Review: Heart-Shaped Box. The most recent stop on my quest to devour all things Joe Hill related led me to his first full-on novel, Heart Shaped Box. Somehow, this one has slipped by me until now. The title alone, also the title to one of Nirvana's greatest songs. And collector of the macabre discovers someone is selling a ghost. But after some digging, Coyne discovers just who. This ghost once was, and ...
Battle Hymns: Comic Review: Basewood
http://bhymns.blogspot.com/2013/02/comic-review-basewood.html
A blog covering the epic spectrum of books, graphic novels and music. Friday, February 1, 2013. I picked up Alec Longsteth's Basewood. Late last year at the Short Run Comics Fest. I honestly don't know why I waited so long to dig in. Unlike the cover pictured to the left, I snagged a boxed set of the five single issues that comprise the Basewood. That dedication shows as Basewood. Stands out as one of my favorite fantasy stories in any medium. The fantasy world he sets the story in is pretty great too...
Battle Hymns: Comic Review: Criminal Vol. 3 The Dead and the Dying
http://bhymns.blogspot.com/2013/01/comic-review-criminal-vol-3-dead-and.html
A blog covering the epic spectrum of books, graphic novels and music. Sunday, January 27, 2013. Comic Review: Criminal Vol. 3 The Dead and the Dying. I figured since I was on such a hot streak with the Criminal. Series, I might as well keep plugging away at it. This third volume, The Dead and the Dying. Is a bit different in format from Coward. The most impressive thing about The Dead and the Dying. Not only do all the stories in The Dead and the Dying. Again with the over-sexualization. And it's not...
Battle Hymns: Comic Quickie: Lose #4
http://bhymns.blogspot.com/2012/11/comic-quickie-lose-4.html
A blog covering the epic spectrum of books, graphic novels and music. Thursday, November 1, 2012. Comic Quickie: Lose #4. Michael DeForge is one of those artists who is well loved by other artists. It seems like whenever I read or listen to an interview with any indie comic artist, they always mention DeForge as one of their favorite artists. Is published by Koyama Press. A publishing company that is quietly putting out some great indie comics. I'm slightly confused as to what the fuss is all about. ...
Battle Hymns: Short Run Comics Fest
http://bhymns.blogspot.com/2012/11/short-run-comics-fest.html
A blog covering the epic spectrum of books, graphic novels and music. Sunday, November 4, 2012. Short Run Comics Fest. Yesterday, Seattle played host to another great comic event, Short Run. A brand-new comics event, Short Run is a showcase of comics, zines, art books, animation and more.yes, I just copied that from the poster. Basically it is a bunch of indie and underground comic creators coming together to put on a free event to showcase their artistic talents. So I was doubly excited to make the trip!

Q&A: Annie Koyama | MEANWHILE...
https://meanwhileontheblog.wordpress.com/2013/01/15/qa-annie-koyama
January 15, 2013. To kick-off our interview series we were fortunate enough to ask a few questions to the inimitable Annie Koyama: mastermind and founder of Toronto-based Koyama Press. Since 2007, Koyama has been producing a notable and exciting collection of independent comics and art books. A testament to her reputation can be seen in the growing population of kickass Annie’s. On the web (Krystal’s can be found above). For those not familiar with Koyama’s roster of talented creators,. I had saved to tr...

Bites to Bytes: Food Break: Egypt
http://bitestobytes.blogspot.com/2011/02/food-break-egypt_04.html
Friday, February 4, 2011. I don't feel like talking about chewy granola bars and homemade mac n cheese. EGYPT has been on my mind. I feel sad and helpless. I'm consumed with stories of courage, brutality, perseverance, and strength. I have no eloquent words. But this woman does:. Do not fear what has blown up. If you must, fear the unexploded.". Is my favourite of her published works. Egypt, you leave me feeling ashamed and strangely hopeful. Where will you go from here? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
Bites to Bytes: Childhood Favourite: Mini-Pizzas
http://bitestobytes.blogspot.com/2011/03/childhood-favourite-mini-pizzas.html
Sunday, March 13, 2011. I've been feeling quite nostalgic, you know.craving those mini-pizzas so alas, instead of buying the Herb Pizza Dough from Trader Joe's, I finally tried making my own. And you know what? It turned out really well! It wasn't as time consuming as I thought it would be AND it was really tasty. I also like my dough thick and bready so I doubled the recipe (as shown below). If you prefer a thinner crust, go ahead and halve the recipe. Courtesy of Smitten Kitchen. Makes one large pie.
Bites to Bytes: My friend Pimms
http://bitestobytes.blogspot.com/2011/03/my-friend-pimms.html
Friday, March 25, 2011. Seattle, on your sunny warm clear blue skies kinda days, you make me never want to leave this glorious city. Let me introduce you to my friend Pimms. Pimms and I meant on my trip to Zambia last year and while it was supposed to close to Winter, it was still blazing hot and nothing was as refreshing as some Pimms with Ginger Ale. I can't imagine what 80 degree weather will do to us. But I know how to prepare for it. Ever-Refreshing Pimms and G'Ale. Makes one tall refreshing glass.

http://bitestobytes.blogspot.com/2011/03/chicago-i-like-your-style.html
Sunday, March 6, 2011. Chicago, I like your style. I think of Lupe. When I think of Chicago. No more, my friends, no more. I got to visit Chicago for the first time a couple of weeks ago and despite what everyone else told me I did not freeze my face off. In fact, I had a WONDERFUL time and also got to tackle the beast that is deep dish pizza:. My food highlight from the trip was definitely the Naanwich. I had from Gaztro-Wagon.
