garrulous extemporaneous superfluous

Far from succinct, unplanned thoughts on my inconsequential mental minutia. Wednesday, August 17, 2011. Morality in the Streets. Last week the news (especially the BBC) carried quite a bit of coverage of the riots in multiple cities in the United Kingdom. Rightly so. What I find interesting in these kind of events ist what's said about it by rational, self-controlled and in-charge types. Or, more poignantly - what's NOT said. Simply because I'm lazy and don't change the station. The fact that all societi...

garrulous extemporaneous superfluous: Black Smoke Monster Song

http://www.biddlemeister.blogspot.com/2010/04/black-smoke-monster-song.html

Far from succinct, unplanned thoughts on my inconsequential mental minutia. Saturday, April 10, 2010. Black Smoke Monster Song. Hoping to find a more convenient name for Dead-Locke's new identity as the black smoke monster on LOST, some time ago I wrote (i.e. ripped off) a little tune and revised the lyrics. I propose we call the Locke-Monster "Puff" and here's his song. Puff the Black Smoke Monster. Lives by the sea. And tosses people - tears them up. On a show on ABC! Puff the Black Smoke Monster.

Far from succinct, unplanned thoughts on my inconsequential mental minutia. Monday, November 08, 2010. Your Massively Important Smallness. Some months back I saw a post on a friend's facebook page that I found intriguing. Here I mean "ironic" not in the wryly sarcastic way it's often used, but more like this: Incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs. It's likely that the answer would vary depending on the frame of reference. Who I'm asking. What their field is. Where. Of knowle...

Far from succinct, unplanned thoughts on my inconsequential mental minutia. Friday, May 29, 2009. It's Spring again, and we're enjoying one of the great benefits of this time of year: strawberries. Aren't strawberries amazing? Truly Nothing quite like them. I have a friend who has never tasted a strawberry. She's allergic. Tragic! If that were me, once a year I'd consider getting the ripest, sweetest strawberries I could find, savoring the eating experience, and quickly washing them down with a Benadril.

Far from succinct, unplanned thoughts on my inconsequential mental minutia. Sunday, October 04, 2009. May I point out to you that Home Depot had all its Christmas Regalia out on display by September 25th this year? Has the day become all that it was not? He came meekly, with no pomp. His goal: to meet our greatest spiritual need. His day is crammed full. It is gaudily advertised and promoted for months. Its end: to fulfill our casual material desires. And aren't we all distracted? Links to this post.

The Juggling Act: Raeley's Party

http://stevens-jugglingact.blogspot.com/2011/10/raeleys-party.html

Wednesday, October 19, 2011. For the big sweet sixteen, Raeley wanted a large party. With her diversity of friends, I let her choose two groups of friends to invite, so the party wouldn't have too many people who didn't know each other. I also asked her to limit it to under 30 people. We didn't do a head count, but I think there were 20 kids there. It was the most fun of the night. I think they could have played it for hours. The Juggling Act: August 2010

http://stevens-jugglingact.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

Sunday, August 22, 2010. My Eldest Daughter's Birthday -15! Raeley had a birthday last week. She is now 15. She has started studying to get her driver's permit. For her birthday, we started a business for her. Then I took her to have lunch with a friend who is a photographer, Robert Raush. Now she is learning how to use this fancy camera. We believe God has given her a unique view on life and she's always been so very observant. She has an obligation to be a good steward of this talent. The boys have not...

The Juggling Act: January 2011

http://stevens-jugglingact.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Sunday, January 9, 2011. Mema and Big Daddy came to visit. Mema and Big Daddy came to visit right after Thanksgiving. And to go to the Egg Bowl. They also brought Mark and I - and we had so much fun! They stayed through the week to also go to the Nutcracker to see Cameron perform. This is a poor quality photo, but for those of you friends with Mark on facebook, check out his page for more photos. Make sure you look at how they transported it. It was such a good experience for her. She really came out...

The Juggling Act: October 2010

http://stevens-jugglingact.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Tuesday, October 5, 2010. Since it has been so long since I have posted, I thought I would give everyone a brief overview of our last couple of months:. Then throw the most involved school year I've had in quite a while, and kids in their activities, and well, that's my ranting for today. I am so glad that she turns to humor and has such a good nature about our crazy life. I was at the grocery store by the time I got the second text, so grandma, you don't have to worry, she wasn't hungry long. It...The b...

The Juggling Act: Gatlinburg

http://stevens-jugglingact.blogspot.com/2011/10/gatlinburg.html

Wednesday, October 19, 2011. Mark and I went to Gatlinburg 18 years ago for our honeymoon. We were excited to take the kids back and see how much it had changed over 18 years. Oh man, had it changed! Enough about shopping. The kids loved the Wonderworks house in Pigeon Forge, which it was like an interactive science museum with a huge indoor ropes course. The Ripley Mirror Maze in Gatlinburg was a hilight for me because we all laughed so much! I love your family photo! April 4, 2013 at 11:27 PM.

The Juggling Act: July 2011

http://stevens-jugglingact.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, July 24, 2011. Needless to say, I have been enjoying visiting the two organic farms in town and the Farmers Market on Saturday mornings. Cameron with some garlic we braided! We have all been doing great. The summer is winding down, and we are trying to fit the last of the activities in before we start back to school. Here are a few hilights:. Cameron went to Vacation Bible School and a worship for kids camp at Hope Church. Cameron and our neighbor in the wind tunnel at the science museum. A colle...

The Juggling Act: November 2010

http://stevens-jugglingact.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

Tuesday, November 23, 2010. General Update November 2010. I guess my blog has become nothing more than a series of general updates. I had saved this blog as a draft back in November. Cameron read her first real book the other day. We went to the library and she picked it out. Green Eggs and Ham. I love that book! The boys have improved in their writing skills. I think Jonathan only cries every other time. November is hunting season, so the days are measured in checking the weather and getting their work ...

Thursday, July 29, 2010. On Hiking .What I Wish List. It has been a long time since I went on the backpacking trip, and although I loved it, I have not taken the time to blog about it like I had intended. It was a great trip and I loved the challenge, the exertion, the feeling of being surrounded by nature. If you have ever thought about going backpacking, here's a list I wish I had read before I left:. What I'm so glad I brought:. My homemade dehydrated food. Extra pair of shoes. What I didn't need:.

The Juggling Act: May 2010

http://stevens-jugglingact.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, May 11, 2010. My oldest daughter, Raeley. Is a free spirit. I don't know how old she was when I realized this. It was the way she held picture books. And looked at the pictures. I never could explain it, but she didn't just look,. She would point out a small, overlooked detail. Like it was the reason the book was written. She was very sensitive about her environment. It needed to look good. It had to look good. It was the way she studied people's faces. Like she could figure out who they were.

The Juggling Act: June 2010

http://stevens-jugglingact.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Monday, June 28, 2010. Raeley was on a mission trip to Longbeach, MS. The boys were at boy scout camp. Cameron went to visit her grandparents. What were Mark and I to do? Something we hadn't done in years. So we dusted off our gear (my hiking boots, Mark's backpack, and all the small things were the same). Mark started researching, and I started dehydrating food. But the day came and we were off. Here is a quick overview:. Kids leave Sunday, I return home at 5 pm from dropping them off. 4:30 am came early.
