The Road to Beerdom: A Beer and Travel Blog: August 2011

The Road to Beerdom: A Beer and Travel Blog. Tuesday, August 30, 2011. New Glarus Brewing Company. In mid-August we visited the southern Wisconsin town of New Glarus, home to New Glarus Brewing Company. While New Glarus does make a wide range of beer styles, there is one beer that is only available at the brewery (in the tasting room and depot), the "Golden Ale". It's part of what they call the R&D Series, and it's a tribute to the Trappist beer Orval. Or on the image below for a slideshow:. Fancy a Pint...

The Road to Beerdom: A Beer and Travel Blog. Wednesday, November 9, 2011. NW Oregon: Day 3, Pearl and NE Portland. Be prepared to walk." That's what I told the group that would be joining us for the third day of our trip. We would cover over five miles (which really isn't that much, but ambitious for a pub crawl), and visit six breweries, ranging from some of Portland's smallest to one of the largest in the country. The first stop was the pub of the Bend, Oregon based Deschutes Brewery. Subscribe to: Pos...

The Road to Beerdom: A Beer and Travel Blog. Saturday, February 9, 2013. A Year Later: Picture Show. One thing that hasn't changed is my love for beer and travel, and I made it to a handful of good places last year. While I won't be doing a full writeup on these, I do have pictures that will help show some of the highlights. Last March, we were in the greater Phoenix area and visited: Papago Brewing (Scottsdale), Four Peaks Brewing (Tempe), and Sun Devil Liquors (Mesa). Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Shelto...

The Road to Beerdom: A Beer and Travel Blog: NW Oregon: Day 2, SE Portland
http://www.roadtobeerdom.com/2011/11/nw-oregon-day-2-se-portland.html
The Road to Beerdom: A Beer and Travel Blog. Friday, November 4, 2011. NW Oregon: Day 2, SE Portland. After a pretty busy first day. Since we took the Mount Hood highway to Hood River, we completed the loop back to Portland. By taking Interstate 84, which runs right along the Columbia River through the Gorge. Downtown Hood River to the middle of Portland is about 60 miles, so it ended up being about an hour drive, with incredible scenery the whole time. It's all full service here, isn't it? A smoked whea...

The Road to Beerdom: A Beer and Travel Blog. Saturday, February 4, 2012. NW Oregon: Day 4, Finale in Portland. My apologies for the long layoff. Let's get back to the end of the Portland trip. Our goal was now to head back across the river to the Southeast quadrant of Portland, and since we continued to have great weather, we walked it. As it happened, we walked right past a Rock Bottom. From NW Oregon Day 4. Once thoroughly into the Southeast, we stopped at a bottle shop/bar called The Beermongers.

The Road to Beerdom: A Beer and Travel Blog: NW Oregon: Day 1, Troutdale and Hood River

The Road to Beerdom: A Beer and Travel Blog. Sunday, October 30, 2011. NW Oregon: Day 1, Troutdale and Hood River. Since high school, I've been drawn to the Pacific Northwest. We arrived in Portland late morning, met a friend at the airport who flew in from L.A. to join us, got a rental car, and after lunch on a double decker bus, drove east about 15 minutes to Troutdale, home of McMenamin's Edgefield. If you've never been to the Pacific Northwest, you've probably never heard of McMenamin's. Because the ...

Monday, June 23, 2014. More Book Pimping: All Tomorrow's Parties. Got a few more of them coming. At which I sell a book not yet technically available in the United States, vandalize it with my name and perhaps a poor joke or sloppy doodle, and we all taste a few delicious beers and have a good larf. One of these might even become legendary. A thirsty belgophile event for the ages. OK, those will be fun. But sane. Ready for the preposterous? Starting around 2 pm on Saturday, July 12, in Washington, D....

Friday, May 1, 2015. Session #99: What's YOUR Mild? I have an hour left in my somewhat arbitrarily self-determined work day before I go an open a bottle of something easy to drink. And I see that today is the day of the Session, the first Friday of the month, when a bunch of beer bloggers tackle the same subject. And then I think, "Oh shit! I still have a blog. Why not? At Fuggled has an agenda with this one. He is promoting mild. Localizing is tricky for me. Stands up from desk. "HONEY! And I can walk t...

Monday, May 26, 2014. Catching Up With America. These are trendy now, I guess? Half/session/all-day/baby IPAs. And the like. Forgive me if I don't scoff at the trend or argue that they really shouldn't be called IPAs (nonsense) or sweat over the exact ABV. They are useful and generally full of flavor. Malty ones will be next. Bring on the American milds. Now we only need to haggle about price. Monday, May 26, 2014. May 26, 2014 at 9:57 AM. Stefan " Swede " Berggren. May 28, 2014 at 8:43 AM.
