bikelovejones: August 2014

http://bikelovejones1.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

The true adventures of a gal and her bike. Saturday, August 23, 2014. Off again, on again: kansas bike redux. If my travels continue to grow in frequency I may have to look into a folding bike. Sunday, August 17, 2014. Bicycle culture, activism, and class shifting. The excellent writer Elly Blue has written a thoughtful post about the change in bicycle activism:. That doesn't mean I don't still enjoy it, that I don't still prefer it to driving a car. Today is my eleventh wedding anniversary. Sweetie,...

bikelovejones: April 2015

http://bikelovejones1.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

The true adventures of a gal and her bike. Wednesday, April 8, 2015. Doth they protest too much? On mountain bike trail access in the heart of a city. About a month ago, the Portland City Council suspended the public process without warning, and summarily ended all discussion on increased mountain bike access to the trails in the River View area. After years of wrangling over trail access in Forest Park. Meanwhile, mountain bikers didn't take this lying down. Instead, they held a protest ride. I think yo...

bikelovejones: retrogrouchy

http://bikelovejones1.blogspot.com/2015/03/retrogrouchy.html

The true adventures of a gal and her bike. Sunday, March 29, 2015. Still, it occurs to me that getting back in may be harder than I thought, in part because of those newer technologies. When I worked at Citybikes. Well, that is changing. Today the bicycle industry is slapping discs on anything that moves, including mid-level commuter bikes. And in this one instance, Jan Heine (of Bicycle Quarterly. This is kinda like that.). So I am handing out my resume at shops where it's less likely that I will be wor...

bikelovejones: ride report: outer east portland

http://bikelovejones1.blogspot.com/2015/05/ride-report-outer-east-portland.html

The true adventures of a gal and her bike. Saturday, May 2, 2015. Ride report: outer east portland. I invited Slug Velo alumni and their friends who get the concept to join me for a mellow, slug-paced bike ride. Not wanting to be totally responsible, I advised that this would be a leaderless ride, and that if found a route and decided we didn't like it, we'd veer and go somewhere else. But I think I'll keep the Andiamos. They DO come in handy.). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). She still keeps a hand ...

bikelovejones: January 2015

http://bikelovejones1.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

The true adventures of a gal and her bike. Sunday, January 25, 2015. Springtime in january: rocky butte. Friday, January 23, 2015. Bicycling and depression: an update. Some time back I talked about menopause. Specifically, about bicycling and how it can help manage some symptoms of peri-menopause. It has been a very hard road. As near as I and my doctor can tell it came on around the same time as my career change. Every doctor out there will tell you that physical activity elevates endorphins, and that r...

Riding with my Son: August 2013

http://ridingwithmyson.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Riding with my Son. Father and Son decide to race cyclocross in order to raise funds for our Veterans. Friday, August 2, 2013. The Nature of Things. Sometimes people ask me why I ride, or why I run or hike. The short answer is I am not sure. Something inside me wants me to be moving outside. I get antsy if I go for more than several days without some sort of physical activity outside of the usual work stuff. Heading up the hill near Clarion, PA. But aside from the physical world riding my bike, or someti...

Riding with my Son. Father and Son decide to race cyclocross in order to raise funds for our Veterans. Tuesday, June 4, 2013. A lot to be thankful for. I know, it's not Thanksgiving and I'm talking about being thankful. The world is all topsy-turvey, eh? Well my world always feels that way. I just try not to get too dizzy and fall down. Still, it happens upon occasion. Of course there are our three sons. I was about to type "boys" but I don't think I can say that any longer. One is about to finis...We of...

Riding with my Son. Father and Son decide to race cyclocross in order to raise funds for our Veterans. Tuesday, August 28, 2012. It was the best of times, it was. oh, geez, who are we kidding? Couple of weeks ago, on a whim, I thought I'd try running a 5K. They were holding a race in a village (Baltimore, Ohio) near ours so what the heck? Let's go pretend to run! I can maintain a decent pace for 4 or 5 miles so I figured I should be able to run a 5K (3.1 something miles. Maybe it's dog miles). A middle a...

Sunday, March 18, 2018. All the beautiful bikes: spring bicycle plans. I've taken delivery on some basic, complete bicycles that I'll spend the next couple of weeks whipping into shape for Catholic Charities Refugee Resettlement. Then I'll be taking a bit of a break for my summer touring season in May and June, and I'll resume the bike-love in July when I'm back in town. Anyone who has had a bike accident which required them to go to the ER, will be asked about their pain level. In my case, as I sit dizzily on the bikeway trying to get my bearings, my hunky lifeguards arrive cheerily bearing first aid, and offer me - wait for it. That seems a bit of a stretch. I haven't broken my back. I need an addiction like I need another broken arm. My wailing obviates the need for a siren as the ambulance speeds over bumpy streets to the ER (I turn down the offer). The waiting room ...
