Tour Divide Grand Depart (Southbound) – 19 days 2 hours 33 mins, second female. What happened in 2014? A mad flurry of bike washing, house packing, farewells and flights and i'm back in Canberra, sitting on the family sofa watching Rosellas wash in the fishpond. Time to reflect on the Red Centre Enduro. The first stage got away after a parade behind a police car through the streets of Alice. I fulfilled a dream by giving high-5s to the school kids that lined the streets to cheer us off. Awesome way to start! D1/S2 - 0.3km ITT. Up at 4:30am to catch the school bus out to Trephina Gorge. Our dopey drive...

Another possible form of escape is to embrace the cold. To look for the frosty, silver linings ...

Adventures on a mountain bike. Maungatapu Track - steeper than it looks. I was keen to carry on, with the smell of the finish in my nostrils. I know it’s “not a race” but I was still pretty keen to be first woman home, since if I couldn’t manage that when I had missed out 180km, then what hope was there? A mediocre Sounds picture. Not worth losing a driving license over. A jelly bean every km, and the thought of cold beers in the square kept spirits up, and I enjoyed the climbing more than the gravel des...
