Pearllight Studio: Cozy Christmas Cottage Journal
http://pearllightstudio.blogspot.com/2016/10/cozy-christmas-cottage-journal.html
Friday, October 7, 2016. Cozy Christmas Cottage Journal. Completed July 30, 2016). The Cozy Christmas Cottage Journal is the third Christmas journal I did in July, and is a continuation of the Winter Wonderland Journal. The cover is made from a cereal box, covered with brown paper which was then stenciled with green acrylic paint and finalized with Christmas clip art cut from Trader Joe's holiday paper bags. I sealed it with a few coats of satin Liquitex varnish to protect the paper. The theme of this jo...

Pearllight Studio: Flying Pink Unicorn Card
http://pearllightstudio.blogspot.com/2016/10/flying-pink-unicorn-card.html
Saturday, October 15, 2016. Flying Pink Unicorn Card. Another quirky greeting card inspired by a Christmas ornament from World Market. I didn't actually get this one to take home, but took a picture of it while at the store. My mind was doing silly things as I stared at the pink paper unicorn with thread hair. The first thing that came to mind is of a card my mom gave me for Valentine's Day, one of a unicorn pooping candy hearts. Like the crab card. I made a text and no text version of this. Winter Wonde...

Pearllight Studio: Jasper Volcano
http://pearllightstudio.blogspot.com/2016/10/jasper-volcano.html
Saturday, October 29, 2016. Here's an interesting background I made yesterday using a photo of a red jasper. Left version is the non shaded version, right is the shaded and enhance version. I used the clone tool to create extra texture area, which means this doesn't look just like the pendant, but it still has some kind of background appeal like a volcano spitting. The setting only makes it even more beautiful, like an oval sun. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. A little back ...

Pearllight Studio: August 2016
http://pearllightstudio.blogspot.com/2016_08_01_archive.html
Monday, August 29, 2016. I've had this silly idea in my head for awhile. It all started when certain pictures in my old Scooby Doo coloring book inspired a basic idea of what if the Mystery machine became the mystery. I scanned the coloring pages and adjusted them, then assembled the comic panel above to show the beginning of a basic concept. I went through some basic sketches to try and figure out the structure of GRUV. Drawing out a character in segmented parts helps me pull it all together better.

Pearllight Studio: July 2016
http://pearllightstudio.blogspot.com/2016_07_01_archive.html
Saturday, July 30, 2016. Jingle In July Journals-sneak peek. Jingle In July journals, a coin name invented by someone in the junk journal community to describe Christmas themed books made in the summer. In the end it all turned out fine, proper contents and colors winding up in the right book after I split the pages for the Winter Wonderland journal and used the more country shades and earth tones to make the Cozy Christmas book (shown on the left). And is this a common thing? The reason I started my rec...

Pearllight Studio: Breakdown
http://pearllightstudio.blogspot.com/2015/10/breakdown.html
Wednesday, October 7, 2015. I settled with the blue tinted version of the image, but have included the warm tone version too, as you can see. The blue set the mood better, but the warm one shows you the actual colors of the scene, and behaves more as a deep night setting than a rainy evening. Into an actual scene. I loved designing the jacket, so it was even more fun applying it to an illustration. Further details about "Breakdown". The country road was a photo I took while in Ohio, the chopper was d...

Pearllight Studio: Fish Bone Monsters
http://pearllightstudio.blogspot.com/2016/10/fish-bone-monsters.html
Saturday, October 22, 2016. Finished Oct. 17, 2016). Fish bone beasts, creepy, yet cool in my opinion. This image series is a result of me experimenting with anonymous images I took of the refuse from the process of making fish broth. My intention was to somehow use those pictures in art, and I seem to have a found a way. Above is the male version of the fish bone beast. The male fish bone beasts have a spine crest that lines the front of their head, an extra bone support for protection during fights...

Pearllight Studio: The Wanderer
http://pearllightstudio.blogspot.com/2016/10/the-wanderer.html
Wednesday, October 12, 2016. This is an emotion based piece using a desktop image, a personal photo, and some other interesting techniques in PSE. It holds some personal meanings for me, but can tell a number of stories for anyone. Many questions can leave you feeling lost, leave you aimless, and so you wander. Where do I belong? Can I go back there, is that where I belong? I've lived in darkness for so long.what does living somewhere beautiful feel like? Would it be better? Would I feel alive there?

Pearllight Studio: September 2016
http://pearllightstudio.blogspot.com/2016_09_01_archive.html
Friday, September 30, 2016. Detectie Case Journals 2-3. Some of you may have remembered the first Detective Case File journal. I did I had plenty of material left after the first one, so I made two more, having finished these both back around the first week of July. For those who enjoy simply junky, somewhat grungy file folder journals, the video above is for you. Also, the second book made from an old Mead journal already had shiny silver font on it. I know for a fact they'll get thicker as I work in th...

Pearllight Studio: Winter Wonderland Junk Journal
http://pearllightstudio.blogspot.com/2016/10/winter-wonderland-junk-journal.html
Monday, October 3, 2016. Winter Wonderland Junk Journal. Completion date- July 22, 2016). The Winter Wonderland journal. Its cover is made from a cereal box, then decorated with shiny snowflake wrapping paper. This project is part of the three Christmas in July journals. I made, having been in the mood for the cold during that month. I added one of my snowflake like doilies to the middle, sealing it on with Mod Podge, and then a coat of Liquitex satin varnish over the full cover, front, back, and inside.
