Birding Connecticut: Back to Fenton-Ruby

http://birdingconnecticut.blogspot.com/2010/10/back-to-fenton-ruby.html

Birding in the Quiet Corner and beyond. Sunday, October 10, 2010. Taylor Pond with Rosa multiflora. On a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon, we made for one of our favorite spots - the Taylor Pond Trail at Fenton-Ruby Park in Willington. We weren't alone - lots of folks were out enjoying the woods. Despite the "crowds" we managed a list of sixteen species of birds within the park, and two more on the drive home. Karen, Sebastian, Sue, Max and Jorge. Red Maple, Acer rubrum. Sebastian and Papa watching a Song Sparrow, Melospiza melodia, which was actually singing. The Connecticut River was fairly calm, with a light wind just ruf...

Birding Connecticut: May 2010

http://birdingconnecticut.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Birding in the Quiet Corner and beyond. Saturday, May 8, 2010. A Very Birdy Week. A major fallout of warblers in Connecticut began last Saturday, May 1st. Coming as it did on a weekend, the timing was perfect for all of us who were just chomping at the bit to get out and see some spring migrants. The day was bright and sunny, and was followed by a similarly beautiful Sunday May 2nd, maybe not quite as gorgeous, but fabulously birdy none-the-less. Jorge, Sue, Sebastian and Max. Great Blue Heron 5/9. Wood ...
