Today Simon, Howard and I hired Venicio "Benny" Wilson to take us to the Lake Bayano and Nusagandi region, located about two hours east of Panama City toward the border of Darien Province. Friday, March 2, 2012. What a great trip it was, and a flurry of birds in just 7 days. Here's a summary of how results. Total species seen for this trip = 210. Total lifers seen for this trip = 17. Total species added to my Panama list = 29. Total species I've seen for all time in Panama = 374. Total species on my life list = 1,161. Total new mammal species seen = 2 (Anteater and Jaguarundi). Total mammal species I have seen = I have no idea - one day I'll tally them up! Until next time, happy birding.

Sunday, February 28, 2010. Birding Feb 18, 2009. Initially the scope provided excellent views of the Hook-billed Kite (far side forest edge) and Green Kingfisher (on twig in middle of wetland), but it also revealed a skulking Rufescent Tiger-Heron and two Muscovy Ducks, both of which Joanna had never seen before. We were also able to get great looks at Blue Dacnis and Great Kiskadee, as well as a half-submerged Capybara, the largest rodent in the world. We arrived at the Rainforest Discovery Centre.

Sunday, February 26, 2012. From the open field we headed into the forest and onto the small lagoon located near the nursery. Here there was a lot of activity, and we spent about 30-45 minutes working the flock of birds. Among the group was Blue-crowned Motmot, Yellow-backed Oriole, Prothonotary Warbler, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Rufous-and-White Wren, Purple-crowned Fairy, Ruddy-tailed Flycatcher, and Blue Dacnis.
