birding; a way of life

Birding; a way of life. Sunday, 16 August 2015. Letham has come to life again with just enough of an edge to pull in waders. On thursday there were 5 Ruff, 1 Black-T Godwit, 1 Dunlin, 21 Snipe, 2 Water Rail and a White Wagtail. This morning the Ruff had increased to 8 and a Whimbrel flew over. The real highlight though was a fantastic Otter that spent over an hour fishing oblivious to me. Ferryhill is proving to be a good place for passage Tree Pipits, this bird took a quick rest on the overhead wires.

Birding; a way of life. Sunday, 19 July 2015. I've got a recording which I ripped off a video I took on my camera (I can't show the Vid as the picture gives away the location and I wouldn't mind staying employed). Only problem is as i have Luddite tendencies I haven't figured out how to upload the audio only version to my Blog yet. The habitat was great for Spot Crake too-mix of grass, sedge and rush (Breeding Sedge Warbler). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Birding; a way of life. Sunday, 2 August 2015. A bit of vis-mig and seawatching to get the autumn started on the Forth. At Kincraig Point on Sat a miscellaneous selection included a Whimbrel, a singing Grasshopper Warbler and 70 Goosander. The Goosander are of part of a regular late summer moult gathering in the Kincraig to Ruddons Point area. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Simple template. Birding; a way of life. Tuesday, 28 July 2015. A Little Egret at Vane Farm was actually the first I've ever seen there, although I haven't been visiting Vane so much in the last few years. Certainly Little Egrets seem to be getting more frequent in Scotland in general and there was a good run of sightings in Fife last autumn. Last night a Whimbrel heard over Glasgow at around 23.00 hrs while I was doing a bat survey. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Birding; a way of life. Sunday, 12 July 2015. The Temmincks Stint that has been present on and off at Vane Farm the last three weeks showed again from the Carden Hide, but kept it's distance. Waders are still a bit disappointing here-we just can't seem to get a long enough dry run of weather to bring the water levels down a tad. Today the most noteworthy were 3 Snipe, 3 Common Sandpiper and the 2 Redshank young. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Birding West Campus

Wednesday, November 15, 2017. Fall migration is a great time of year and it's also a horrible time of year, at least when talking about the casualties from birds colliding with windows. But this time, the same sad story we repeatedly tell has a happier ending. While there are some issues with an installation like this to deter collisions, it seems to be working quite well. The silhouettes sides are mostly facing out to break up the reflections, the tree in the window is still a reflection. Birds from day...

Accommodation costs so little. On Saturday, March 10, 2018. My main habit is always to sleep at home via Couchsurfing (click to read the article on the subject and find out more). So yes I hear some moan in the bottom. It is true that we do not enjoy total comfort, but on the other hand we earn much more! And if you travel, is it to meet and see something other than what you have around you every day? Of course I do not use Couchsurfing everywhere! For example in Asia accommodation costs so little. That ...
