Old La Honda winds through wooded slopes and horse property on the way to Skyline. It's a “pleasant” climb on a hot day because of all the shade. The shade was a key factor in deciding this route. It was gonna be hot and riding coastal was the way to stay cool. He doesn't even have hair on his legs yet!
