Birds In Your Backyard: Branching Owl!

http://www.birdsinyourbackyard.blogspot.com/2015/06/branching-owl.html

Thursday, June 4, 2015. William came in and told me "The owls are branching! About an hour ago. We went out right away to get some pictures. If you don't know, we have Long-eared Owls nesting in our back forest. I haven't done the second Birdathon post (I will get it out very soon) in which there are pictures of the baby owls in the nest. It has been almost exactly a week since then, and now the owls are out of the nest, and sitting on branches. Here is an uncropped photo of it. This photo is by Will.

A photo blog of birds and wildlife in Southern Ontario from my backyard and beyond. Saturday, May 23, 2015. Florida - Feb 2015. No, I didn't die, didn't move to where internet doesn't exist. A combination of busy life, needing to pick priorities, and dealing with some big decisions meant I've hardly done any birding or blogging for a long time. Actually, checking my last post date, it's been exactly 6 months to the day. Anhinga (pronounced An-heena) doing its submerged swim. Belted Kingfisher in flight.

I don't believe in karma, nor do I believe in a God who is just waiting to put me in my place when I fail in some way. But looking back, I think this was a case of lapse followed by lesson. Let me explain. You can see Dianna Ouellette's photos here. That I'm not after the numbers and lists, though I do keep a general life list.

A photo blog of birds and wildlife in Southern Ontario from my backyard and beyond. Sunday, July 20, 2014. Grass Lake and West Shore of Hamilton Harbour. Being early afternoon, there wasn't a lot of bird activity, but a Tree Swallow perched for a picture for me not far from its nest box in the radio field. Walking towards Grass Lake, a House wren was signing heartily in a small patch of mostly dead Pine Trees. Nesting Caspian Terns and Ring-billed Gulls. A photo blog of birds and wildlife in Southern Ontario from my backyard and beyond. Saturday, March 29, 2014. First Signs of Spring on a Sunday Afternoon. A large group of very plump Robins was also enjoying the same opportunity. Another group of House Finches were busy there as well, though they were not feeding on the berries.
