A blog about tinkering with airguns. Tuesday, May 12, 2015. Making a Bulk Gas Tube for a QB Rifle - Part 3 Final. With all the holes and slots in the tube finished, I wanted to add a couple more screws to better anchor the valve. Installed the valve, spotted, and drilled right through the gas tube into the valve body. Tapped M5 x 0.8mm. Yeah, the extra valve screws are tiny. Here's one I made from a turned down M5 button head. And installed. They barely stand proud of the tube. I think this pic is after ...

A blog about tinkering with airguns. Tuesday, April 22, 2014. Sleeve for the HW35. Started with a piece of 0.750" OD DOM steel tube. The ID was 0.606" and a close fit to the barrel. Chucked in the lathe and faced one end. With the compound set by eyeball, a shallow taper was cut to the breech end. The taper allows for clearance while cocking to insure there's no contact with the wood stock. Could've done a more abrupt bevel, but to me, this is better looking. Started milling out a slot for the sight.

A blog about tinkering with airguns. Monday, May 4, 2015. Making a Bulk Gas Tube for a QB Rifle - Part 2. Picking up where I left off. With the tube threaded for the bulk fill cap and cut to length, I wanted an easy way to add the holes and slots for the breech, striker and trigger components. A square collet block will provide for easy 180 degree indexing to align holes top and bottom. Edge finding. Once I found center, I started spotting holes, drilling and milling using the original tube as a guide.

Here are a few additional pics of the damaged piston seal. The face of the seal has actually melted from the adiabatic heating of the piston's compression stroke. The Maccari replacement seal. While this seal is listed as fitting the Hatsan 135,. It's also correct for the Hatsan manufactured Webley Patriot. Gonna button the rear of the piston. Now for that lo...

A blog about tinkering with airguns. Sunday, August 10, 2014. Back to the Patriot. Got back to the Patriot the other day. Wanted to reduce the airflow through the transfer port to create a slightly larger cushion of air in front of the piston. The hope was that the "ping" from the piston hitting the front of the compression tube would go away. Tore the gun down again and jumped in. Didn't bother to go through pin gages to find the actual size, but a #20 drill bit (0.161") just fits. Morgan Adjustable Rec...

A blog about tinkering with airguns. Sunday, April 13, 2014. Flag City Toys that Shoot Airgun Show Findlay, Ohio 2014. Just a quick post. Made the two hour drive yesterday to Findlay, Ohio for the annual Toys that Shoot airgun show. Don't quote me for the record, but I think the show was about 65% pellet guns and 35% BB. With the later mainly falling in the collector category. There was at least a metric ton of pellets scattered throughout the show. Big bores were well represented. Smith and Wesson Model...

I copied this from my main blog as proof that I still find a little time to play with airguns.]. I’m of an age that I need reading glasses for close up work. Unfortunately I also need safety glasses in many of the same situations. I know that you can buy magnifying safety glasses, but they are never as inexpensive as the $1.00 reading glasses from the local Dollar Tree. So I guess I’ll...
