Hello World

X8SIL-F IPMI Serial (debug) port. After reading a blog post. On it, I went probing around my X8SIL-F board looking for a hidden serial port. After entirely too long, I discovered it’s right near the IPMI. Controller, and is labeled J25 (TX) and J26 (RX). You’ll need an adapter though, this is a 3.3v serial port. I (badly) soldered some headers on, and am now able to interact with the IPMI. It looks like this:. Watching it boot up is pretty interesting:. Reattaching IPMI Memory to a X8SIL-F. D the wires a...

Edgemax and iPXE

http://blog.devicenull.org/2013/11/25/edgemax-and-ipxe.html

Edgemax and iPXE». Recently, I needed to reinstall one of my machines at home. My choices were find a USB. Drive and setup the installer or finally get around to setting up network installs. At this point I can setup network installs in my sleep, so that was the better choice. I use an Edgemax router at home, which is based on Vyatta. Figuring out the configuration necessary to do this took longer then anything else. I’m only using TFTP. Here, but it’s just as easy to use HTTP. Raquo; ASpeed IPMI Firmware.

The evolution of our Windows installation methods

http://blog.devicenull.org/2013/08/09/the-evolution-of-our-windows-installation-methods.html

The evolution of our Windows installation methods». In the beginning there was G4L (Ghost for Linux). Lacking any sort of PXE. System, we shipped a cdrom in each server. Reimaging a server meant rebooting it from the cd drive, and grabbing the image via FTP. So you end up with a 1:1 copy of every sector of the hard disk. This means restores take forever, and take longer the bigger your disks. Drive that moved from machine to machine. Our initial deployment of Clonezilla used it as part of DRBL. For image...

http://blog.devicenull.org/2014/02/05/extracting-supermicro-ipmi-firmware.html

Extracting SuperMicro IPMI Firmware». Progress has been made on understanding how the IPMI. Firmware is actually laid out. Through some careful research I actually found some documentation for the bootloader. It gave me the structure of the footer blocks used to identify a section of a firmware image. Some quick python code later, and I have a tool. To dump some information and extract different parts of the firmware. Read 16777216 bytes Bootloader md5 matches, this parser will probably work!
