Daily JD: How to win the Github contest

http://blog.jdrowell.com/2009/09/how-to-win-github-contest.html

Notes about geeky stuff I do for fun and . and profit! Thursday, September 3, 2009. How to win the Github contest. That was the question. I only found out about the contest about 3 days before it ended. My Bloglines queue was showing 7000 posts unread (as usual) and during a quick cleanup run- where I try to at least skim over the headers in my favorite folders- I found out about the contest. The Netflix mention was a little funny, because I remembered downloading a huge file (1TB? To a trained mathemati...

Daily JD: August 2008

http://blog.jdrowell.com/2008_08_01_archive.html

Notes about geeky stuff I do for fun and . and profit! Monday, August 11, 2008. I'm trying to force myself to switch to Git. For my current projects. The safest way to do it seems to be using an older project as a guinea pig :) So I just pushed jdresolve. Over to GitHub. I'll scavenge for the uncommitted patches and the unanswered emails regarding jdresolve and will commit to the Git repository. John D. Rowell. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). John D. Rowell. Notes about geeky stuff I do for fun and . and profit! Friday, April 3, 2009. Alexa cleaning up interfaces. Now that Alexa's thumbnails are no longer supported via AWS (breaking their own site for a while :P) it seems that they decided to also revamp their remaining services and do so cleaning up. This broke a script of mine used to fetch per-country stats. It's a simple change, the. Property in the XML instead of the old. To filter out the resulting rank. John D. Rowell. Daily JD: xrandr to the rescue

http://blog.jdrowell.com/2009/07/xrandr-to-rescue.html

Notes about geeky stuff I do for fun and . and profit! Wednesday, July 15, 2009. Xrandr to the rescue. Anyway the solution is quite simple. Just force xrandr to recognize the modeline you want (xrandr - newmode and copy/paste the modeline from Xorg.0.log, then xrandr - addmode). Now go to the display preferences and your shinny new display mode will be available. Logout and login and all is done. Yay! John D. Rowell. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). John D. Rowell. Load testing our robots API with Gatling. August 6, 2015. In a previous blog post. We made an API with spray. Now we’re going to load test it. For this, we will use http:/ gatling.io/#/. In a scala class we can write exactly what and how we want to run the test. In this test, we will do a post to our API and create a new robot called C3PO. We will do this 1000 times per second and keep doing this for 10 seconds. For a total of 10000 C3POs! We need to have our API running here. The simulation to run.

Notes about geeky stuff I do for fun and . and profit! Friday, June 18, 2010. Get your text back. Playing around with Nokogiri to process a bunch of HTML files, I ended up pushing the results to MongoDB. Remember, MongoDB always stores UTF-8, which is a good thing. Unfortunately XML transforms like to escape anything they can, so I ended up with strings like:. Ruby-1.9.1-p378 a="José Saramago, 1922-2010". José Saramago, 1922-2010". Ruby-1.9.1-p378 require 'rexml/document'. José Saramago, 1922-2010".

Random Thoughts

February 22, 2015 9:03 PM. Let me explain a little bit about Beefy Connection and what we're intending to do. Therefore, we need something to keep track of the people that have expressed interest, and follow up with them later. If you have something like this, you can also reach out to the leadership of the particular areas that people have expressed interest in (for example, an Ambassador mentor for an Ambassador) and have that person or people follow up. Speaking of the Fedora booth, there's some pictu...
