The ‘conventional’ (aka outdated and tedious) way of setting the rider sag on your motorcycle involves using an inaccurate mechanical sag scale. That was stupid easy to use with super accurate measurements, so you could quickly get your suspension setup correctly and get to testing or just enjoying your bike out on the road or dirt. The best way to look at it is that springs are static and will always react the same way to a given force. If you apply 50 lbs of pressure it will always compress the same amount. Springs will dictate how the bike sits under any given load. Any given bike should sit exactly the same way wether it has a 200 lb rider or a 130 lb rider on board, this is why sag is so critical. With air forks riders end up chasing arbitrary PSI levels doing lap after lap of testing and find themselves drained before they find the sweet spot.
