joie de beeb: Exploring Antarctica
http://joiedebeeb.blogspot.com/2010/01/exploring-antarctica.html
Wednesday, January 27, 2010. I am lucky enough to be friends with two of the most creative people on the planet. Jessica Grindstaff and Erik Sanko, collectively known as Phantom Limb, are a husband and wife team who create incredible marionette theater works, inspired by all sorts of things. Their latest project is by far the most ambitious- a piece about Sir Ernest Shackleton's trans-Antarctic expedition on the ship Endurance. It's a work of art in itself. The moment you've all been waiting for.

A residency at Palmer Station, Antarctica, awarded by the National Science Foundation's Antarctic Artists and Writers Program. Saturday, January 31, 2009. Sunday February 1 I board the Laurence M. Gould for the long voyage north. Posting from the icebreaker is pretty unlikely, but faithful visitors can expect the days to be filled in once I'm on land again. The "birders" use my favorite notebook in a more typical way. Kirstie records bill length and body weight of Giant Petrel chicks on Humbolt Island.

So forgive the inaccuracies. I'm working on it, but I thought I'd put it out there. Cheryl and I happily drifted along, the engine off, her water mics trailing under th...
