Yesterday I watched a group of for juvenile swallows perched on a broken branch in the river and waiting to be fed. I tried capturing this on video but the lighting was so harsh that the video camera could not deal with it at all. With the cooler weather setting in, and plenty of rain, a variety of fungi has been popping up out of the ground, on rotting logs, and even on an animal carcass. Tuesday, 30 September 2008. Whilst in hot pursuit of a small but agile skink, I was removing a few rocks among which it had crawled. My attention was then shifted to the interesting looking beetle you see photographed below. It is 15mm in length and I believe it to be Saragus costatus. Just a couple of days ago. Wednesday, 28 April 2010. A Wet but Pleasant Day at Narawntapu. Earlier this month we went with friends to Narawntapu National Park having virtually guaranteed they would get a good view of a wombat. Upon arrival it was dull, overcast and the place seemed to be devoid of life bar a couple of ravens flying overhead. Fungus along the track to the hide. A rather wet Wombat - Vombatus ursinus. Some of the following birds may be common in some parts of the country but in my local area I would consider them all to be uncommon to rare. 1 Fairy Tern ( Sternula nereis. On 9th May I sighted nine Fairy Terns at Cooee. It was high tide and they were feeding right at the edge of the shore just metres from my car. Of course my camera was at home.
