Interviews, news and photographic musings. Through the eyes of fine art photographer and journalist susan burnstine. In Focus: Tim Hyde. I’ve known Tim Hyde for a number of years and am quite fond of him as a person and as an artist. It’s been wonderful to watch his recent rise to success and I look forward to seeing all that he achieves in the future. Recently, I had a chat with Tim about his work. Here’s an excerpt from that recent conversation. It is an odd thing. SB: You are frequently drawn to image...

Interviews, news and photographic musings. Through the eyes of fine art photographer and journalist susan burnstine. In Focus: Walker Pickering. About a year ago, my friend Polly Chandler. Catalog…an image which I am absolutely crazy about. This past week, Walker was kind enough to chat with me about his work. Here’s an excerpt from that chat. SUSAN BURNSTINE: What were your beginnings as a photographer and when did you realize it would become your chosen form of expression? When I moved to Chicago, I st...

Interviews, news and photographic musings. Through the eyes of fine art photographer and journalist susan burnstine. In Focus: Sara Macel. Weeks ago, I happened upon Sara Macel’s work via the amazing website collect.give. Of which I am a huge fan of. I was instantly taken by the image she’s offering (above) to help raise funds for Camp Discovery, so I contacted her for an interview. Here’s an excerpt from a chat we had last week. But it really all started when I was about 14 taking that first photo class.

Interviews, news and photographic musings. Through the eyes of fine art photographer and journalist susan burnstine. In Focus: Brad Temkin. While attending Fotofest reviews a few years ago, my friend. Suggested I meet his longtime friend Brad Temkin. He was certain we’d become pals and as usual, Dave was right. I was instantly taken by Brad’s work the first time I viewed it. Since then, we’ve been talking about working on an article or interview. Rooftop movement as a whole (where they began, etc)? Objec...

Interviews, news and photographic musings. Through the eyes of fine art photographer and journalist susan burnstine. On The Walls: Andrea Galluzzo @ Camera Work. Last spring, I met Andrea Galluzzo at Photolucida and have kept in touch since. Andrea’s solo exhibition “Know Myself in All My Parts” opens this Saturday at Camera Work Gallery. Here’s an excerpt from a conversation that Andrea and I had last week. Needless to say I kept one belief, and ditched the other. Grow as an artist, is continually askin...

Boxes & Bellows: On the main road

http://boxesbellows.blogspot.com/2015/05/on-main-road.html

And perhaps a wee boatee. Saturday, May 16, 2015. On the main road. Obviously the ferry at Tarbet had not come in otherwise there may be a few vehicles coming this way. Oh, and look at that, the sun was shining. Must look in my diary and see what year that was. And Mr Barrett our resident cycle book author. And a typical crofters cottage. Boxes & Bellows: Maybe I will

http://boxesbellows.blogspot.com/2015/05/maybe-i-will.html

And perhaps a wee boatee. Monday, May 18, 2015. My reader asked me about my darkroom and the extensive facilities I have here on the island for developing and sometimes printing films. Well, it's the old peat shed next to the house that also houses the bikes. Only thing, when I go in there to snap it up for you it's always dark. Funny that. So you'll have to make do with a couple of snaps of Mr Toots who is. Sometimes full of brightness. Planned by Lord Leverhulme to transport fish. A Sense of Achievement.

Boxes & Bellows: February 2015

http://boxesbellows.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

And perhaps a wee boatee. Saturday, February 28, 2015. Then there was one. Two I suppose with me. Tall type people from another world. Looking and everything. We saw it. Them there hills were still there when we left that day. Saw them later looming over our resting place. Just as well I had a little camera with me so I could capture that very moment. It's not like that now. The clouds are different, there's probably been a rockfall or three and the air has changed. Links to this post. Links to this post.

Boxes & Bellows: A binscape with smudge and related development information which may or may be useful.

http://boxesbellows.blogspot.com/2015/05/a-binscape-with-smudge-and-related.html

And perhaps a wee boatee. Thursday, May 21, 2015. A binscape with smudge and related development information which may or may be useful. Bin Scape with big thing in background [and smudge]. Not sure how that happened but the Castle seemed to loom there. The smudge came from goodness knows where - which is a bit unfair as the old place is looking spick and span in and out these days. Boxes & Bellows: One mad dog

http://boxesbellows.blogspot.com/2015/05/one-mad-dog.html

And perhaps a wee boatee. Friday, May 22, 2015. I know Boysie. He slobbers over me from time to time and it's not very easy to stop him doing so. But he makes a fine portrait. I had a Pentax Espio Mini. With me and it seemed to do the job. There he is, Boysie the Great Dane with Chris his plaything! I think I prefer cats. Boysie, portrait number 2 - nice one! Boxes & Bellows: Caught

http://boxesbellows.blogspot.com/2015/05/caught.html

And perhaps a wee boatee. Tuesday, May 19, 2015. Found this lively Glaswegian trying to grab an electronic facsimile of a pile of old stones the other day. Whilst he was awaiting peeps to get out of his shot I was waiting for the flippin stones to get out of mine. Nice chap mind. The stone is to your left! There are occasions when your sense of humour really does make me happy. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Not available for hire at any time! View my complete profile. February 23, 2015. February 23, 2015. Thanks for stopping by my new blog and first post. My name is Susan and I am married to the love of my life, Paul. I’m mom to three children, two mid twenty boys and Paul and I have a daughter two years old. It’s a new start for me, and a new book, this year in 2015! It will be called Labors of Love. And I’m excited to see it birthed this year. It has been a labor of love! Why did I want to be a surrogate mother? How did I get into it? Proudly powered by WordPress.

Interviews, news and photographic musings. Through the eyes of fine art photographer and journalist susan burnstine. In Memorium: Lauren E. Simonutti. Last week we lost a truly great artist and soul, Lauren E Simonutti. When I heard the news I couldn’t take a breath for what seemed to be an entire day. My heart is still in knots… I had just seen Lauren two weeks before and I couldn’t get my head around the fact that this amazing woman was no longer with us. I grappled with what I could do in her honor an...

Sunday, March 18, 2018. Getting Ready for Books in Bloom. It's time to get ready for Books in Bloom. At this point I know I will have a branch or two of some kind and haiku hanging from the branches. I may even use this one and add some small flowers—thinking of wax flowers. I wrote out this haiku on lokta paper from Chino Crafts. In Nepal with sumi ink. The pen caught in a few places. My first inclination is to find another paper but I think I might like the occasional roughness. We shall see. Monday, M...
