BRITISH SUBURBAN LIFE: September 2005
http://livinginsuburbia.blogspot.com/2005_09_01_archive.html
Thursday, September 29, 2005. Just a quick comment about the discussion we had in class yesterday. After the mention of the 9/11 website i remembered an episode of Jay Leno where these two men were on for creating a website. Posted by baby c @ 1:45 PM. Thursday, September 22, 2005. After discussing the idea of whether George goes through an epiphany while re-visiting Lower Binfield, one idea came to mind in favor for his coming to some sort of realization about his life and the world around him. In Searc...

Just write the stuff you'd want to read." Right, eas. Y Similarly, as a teacher, I find myself often trying to shape courses that I'd want to take. A lot more difficult than one would imagine. On Rhetoric, Composing, Music, and Teaching. Tuesday, March 27, 2007. The Sound of New York. There were, of course, several cool things about Cs—meeting old friends and making new ones, seeing some cool panels, actually feeling surprised that people came to ours—but the following was actually the coolest…. But that’s not actually what I was getting at. Well, apparently we build filing cabinets (surrounded by a block of park) to stack 170,000 apartments (per building! Tuesday, March 13, 2007. My research interests are at the intersection of writing, music, and rhetoric and the ways in which those acts inform how we imagine Composition. I'm also the editor of a literary magazine, The Avery Anthology, which publishes fiction by emerging and established writers twice a year. View my complete profile.

ENGL 382: Suburban Vermin. Tuesday, September 27, 2005. What it really means to be a fifth-wheel. As I was reading the text to Mike Leigh’s. Perhaps Susan is the most intriguing character because in the suburbanites’ seemingly generic existence, she represents the link between the unknown ‘out there,’ and the unknown that exists just below the surface. On Rhetoric, Composing, Music, and Teaching. Thursday, April 26, 2007. To what degree are Composition and Rhetoric scholars expected to draw from theorists and philosophers in order to better theorize writing? Does Davis actually call on a "thorough recasting of writing" in *Breaking [Up] at Totality*? There's a great scene in the documentary *Zizek! But that question gets boring fast. I think Sanchez is simply asking the wrong question (his point, though, is a good one). So what if we draw on co...We sh...

On Rhetoric, Composing, Music, and Teaching. Monday, November 12, 2007. On Quality of Thought. This weekend I presented at MMLA in Cleveland. The panel was great: four Rhet/Compers trying to press on some of the (new? I’m trying to develop a certain quality of mind! What the hell does that mean? To me it sounds like a sketchy way to deny tenure to people you don't like or whose research you don't like. November 13, 2007 at 10:52 AM. Glad you had a good experience presenting. Are you presenting at MLA?

ENGL 382: Suburban Vermin: November 2005
http://suburbanvermin.blogspot.com/2005_11_01_archive.html
ENGL 382: Suburban Vermin. Monday, November 21, 2005. Every post gets longer. I will try to keep this last one more succinct. I wonder if suburbs might be a more extreme example of the heterotopia of compensation. They are places that attempt to create order out of real space. They do so not only by ordering differences, but by blending, and essentially eradicating them. Maybe, then, suburbs aren't heterotopias at all, but represent the elusive 'normal ordering' that escapes Foucault's defini...The Queen...
