Young at hART: Sewing Projects

http://bloggingissaquah.blogspot.com/2014/03/sewing-projects.html

A place for my personal reflections and recording some of the highlights of my life. Saturday, March 22, 2014. I've been having too much fun in my sewing room lately. I made this Cathedral quilt for Hailey's 5th birthday. I hope it keeps her warm at night. I added a label. Today I made this fun skirt for Annika who is 6 years old. I need to find a soft pink knit fabric so I can make a top to go with it. I'm especially pleased that the buttons are such a great match! Can you make one in my size ;). At the...

Young at hART: I'm no sissy!

http://bloggingissaquah.blogspot.com/2014/07/im-no-sissy_4.html

A place for my personal reflections and recording some of the highlights of my life. Friday, July 4, 2014. As we all have heard, “getting old isn’t for sissies.” I’m certainly no sissy! But I am getting older. And it is discouraging. Both Dave and I have had our share of health issues, and we expect them as a normal part of being human. However, as we are home today, on the 4. We certainly don’t blame them. And I don’t blame us! Please don’t think that I am whining about our lot in life! Both Dave and I ...

A place for my personal reflections and recording some of the highlights of my life. Saturday, September 21, 2013. Gluten-Free Fudgy Brownie Cupcakes. You've heard it said.I'm sure.horses sweat, men perspire and ladies glisten. Well, I must be a horse because I am sweating! I've been in the kitchen all day. First I met 2 friends for coffee at 8:30 am. Yup.on a Saturday! After coffee this morning I hopped to it and made some raspberry jam. I cut back on the sugar and man is it good! Then I put a pot roast...

Young at hART: July 2013

http://bloggingissaquah.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

A place for my personal reflections and recording some of the highlights of my life. Saturday, July 13, 2013. Twice a month I meet with 7 other ladies (most of whom live in my neighborhood) for pinochle. Yesterday was my turn to host. We typically have 2 tables set up with 2 decks of cards (so as not to waste time shuffling) and snacks. We all chip in $1.50 which is divided up when we finish and given to the high point winner, last pinochle and lowest score. Made it brown up more than usual. Ohand of cou...

Beyond Baseball: September 2010

http://readrobin.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

September 28, 2010. Joe and I were raised to be thrifty. We’ve lived in the same house now for nearly 24 years. Most of the furnishings and decor are years out of fashion and way past their “expiration dates”. But as long as we can get by with what we have, we feel no sense of urgency to update. Our appliances? But some things just can’t be tolerated. When the coffee grinder broke last week, it was replaced before nightfall. And when our desktop computer lost the ability to connect to the i...I loved eve...

Beyond Baseball: November 2010

http://readrobin.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

November 30, 2010. Smart Cats, Bad Decorator…or Both? The cats know they are not supposed to bother the tree, but when we’re not looking, they pull the balls off. I suppose that’s not altogether a bad thing, because since I’m never too confident of my decorating abilities, this gives me a chance to try multiple times to get it right. But this morning, as I walked into the room, I had a realization: all four of the balls I saw on the carpet, and all those I’d seen the previous day were green! Saben and Na...

September 19, 2011. I’ve never been one to welcome change. I get a sense of comfort and security from having sameness and stability in my life. When things are going great, why rock the boat? Unfortunately, God (and others) don’t always agree with me. I’m experiencing some significant changes in my life right now. Some of them are hard for me but good for others. October 26, 2010. Just Can’t Get Enough of This Grandparenting Thing! Last weekend Joe and I had the privilege of taking care of Isla while her mom and dad took a 4-day trip to Santa Barbara. I’m sure it was hard for Kelsie and Graham to leave their precious little girl, but it was so much fun for us! So, thank-you, Kelsie and Graham! Gideon is so cute and cuddly! Well, I guess we did manage to capture Isla, after all! Check this out: Isla is guiding Joe’s hand, using it to pat the baby! We left Lani&#82...

Beyond Baseball: My Trellis Wears a Jacket

http://readrobin.blogspot.com/2011/04/my-trellis-wears-jacket.html

April 11, 2011. My Trellis Wears a Jacket. My trellis wears a jacket. This year it’s green. Why does my trellis wear a jacket? Because of the squirrels. I used to think they were adorable, those furry little creatures with the bushy tails. And so I giggled when my sister lamented over the third garbage can lid they’d destroyed. I even laughed when she told the story of how they had gnawed through her window screens and scattered Oreo cookie crumbs all over her kitchen. I witnessed those clever little mis...

http://readrobin.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

December 27, 2010. What a gift it was to have all the kids and their spouses and our grandkids here for Christmas! Kelsie, Graham, and Isla arrived on the 23rd, so we extra time to hang out with them. Here’s Isla playing with her favorite toy at Grandma and Grandpa’s house:. Graham cooked dinner for us that night: a wonderful pasta dish with sausage and fresh fennel, and a salad of arugula, pears, and fresh parmesan. Yum! After dinner we played some Yahtzee. First item of business: The traditional family...

Beyond Baseball: A Portrait of Grandma Young: A Mother’s Day tribute for my kids, siblings, nieces and nephews to enjoy

May 8, 2011. A Portrait of Grandma Young: A Mother’s Day tribute for my kids, siblings, nieces and nephews to enjoy. My mom passed away when Ben was less than two years old, so I knew that he’d be left with few memories of her. Yet, I wanted him to know her. This is something I put together for him a few years ago. I thought I would share it with all of you today. I hope you enjoy the memories! May 8, 2011 at 7:01 PM. May 9, 2011 at 7:40 AM. Thanks for sharing, Mom! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

blogging isn't gay

I wake up sweating. I used to think that was healthy and that thought made me feel kind of good about it, but now I just feel awful. Lord I didn't mean to complain - it's just I hate myself for not being able to summon up the energy to stay awake in the morning! A load of rubbish, and London is pretty disgusting actually in parts. Greece is dodgy, and Athens is a hideous, graffitied mess. So when it comes to silliness, or mess, at least Malaysia's mess is my. I've written a crap ton of essays before....

I don't really know what I'm doing. Sorry.

I don't really know what I'm doing. Sorry. Thursday, September 4, 2008. Remembering that story made me happy. I don't know why. It really shouldn't. Monday, August 18, 2008. Ok, I understand that blogging about blogging is tedious and ridiculous but I couldn't resist. The other day a friend of mine said "Blogging is just how people in 2008 achieve their 15 minutes of fame." (or something to that effect). I responded, "More like 15 minutes of lame! But is that true? Is that why we blog? So yeah, obviously...

A place for my personal reflections and recording some of the highlights of my life. Wednesday, March 7, 2018. I taught a class several months ago, which was about using your serger to make this sweet knit top, modeled by Charlotte. I was all prepared to teach this poinsettia class using your serger, but people didn't sign up for it and the ones who wanted it were going to be out of town. I did sell a few patterns, however, so they could make it on their own. I liked this one done is white polar fleece.

Mine Boy

Thursday, October 20, 2005. An excerpt from the book. Somewhere in the distance a clock chimed. The big man listened. Onetwo Three. Three o’clock in the morning. He shifted the little bundle from his right hand to his left, hitched up his pants, and continued up the narrow street. A dark narrow street full of shadows, he thought.
