Air Water Separator

The problem was air entering through the seacock. The rough weather was creating foam and the foam was flowing along the hull and being sucked in. Each bit of air destroyed the 600 lbs of pressure needed to make water. So, I spent a considerable amount of time in the engine room jury rigging an air water separator and vowed to make that problem go away evermore. There is extra plumbing involved for fresh water feed to the watermaker, back flushing, etc. But, the basic parts are simple.

Paravanes or Towed Passive Stabilizers (TPS). Updated June 3, 2009. And on Amazon.com. The retrieval line that is attached to the tail of each bird is now:. 1/4 Endura 12 Single Braid. NEW ENGLAND ROPES 1520-08-00600. West Marine # 3742459. WIRE V. CHAIN. My TPS are now set up with 5/8 inch rope from the tip of the boom. With the snubber in place the overall length is 15 feet which also brings the rope down to the water when the booms are out and the boat is stationary. NEW ENGLAND ROPES 7014-20-00600.

Replacing your dry stack muffler. By Scott Flanders on M/V Egret. Replacing the muffler is a job you can do yourself if you have a helper. You will need a couple tools you may not have but it is no big expense. We used metric sizes even though the muffler is U.S. built. The tools we used are pictured below. Reinstall the new muffler as it came out. Again, slip the muffler inside the stack, bolt on the stainless steel tail piece (keeping 4 bolts thru the bottom flange but without nuts while you tighte...

Gaskets

Once the heat blanket was removed, I could see cracks in the gasket. Once the pipes were apart, it was apparent that the gasket had disintegrated. I had to be careful not to knock pieces into the exhaust pipe. I ordered some premade gaskets and gasket material from Hatton Marine ( www.hattonmarine.com. Here are the measurements for this coupling. Here are the homemade gaskets. And, these are the premade ones. The gaskets were purchased from www.allstategasket.com. The flex coupling unwrapped.
