who cares about that?: January 2008

Who cares about that? Ignorance kills hope. Understanding through dialogue: key to effective cooperation and transparency in a society based on a solid platform, exploitation diversity for a unified future. Criticism for construction. Monday, 21 January 2008. Human Embryo cloned from Skin Cell. Is one of the few Hollywoodian sci-fi films I can say to have appreciated. Is it right to interfere with life? Should scientists be playing with the creation of life? It frightens to realise that in a few decades ...

Gun toting pacifist: I love Valentine's day... honest!
http://jamesfordham.blogspot.com/2008/02/i-love-valentines-day-honest.html
Friday, 15 February 2008. I love Valentine's day. honest! Valentine’s Day makes me sick, I just wish I’d kept that to myself and not told the girlfriend. If you were out on Thursday night, I’m sure you all saw it – supposedly lovesick couples, fawning over each other everywhere you turned. Please don’t get me wrong, I am not averse to public displays of affection and have been prone to wretch-inducing behaviour myself. Suddenly everyone is gazing into each other’s eyes like opticians on ecstasy. Apparent...

Living With Letters: Odd one out
http://livingwithletters.blogspot.com/2015/05/odd-one-out.html
Saturday, 30 May 2015. I always embraced other cultures and tried to learn about them. So when presented with the option of sharing a house with foreigners I didn't think there would be any problems. However I didn't take account of dealing with conflicting prejudices and social expectations. Things I did that I found completely normal were sometimes frowned upon, leaving me occasionally fighting to be myself. I didn't expect to struggle with acceptance that made me feel culturally alone.

Living With Letters: January 2015
http://livingwithletters.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Friday, 16 January 2015. Taking the piss for a better future. The Hebdo attacks had my mind whirring, partly because I'd never even heard of the cartoons (admitting to ignorance), and partly because I'd become bogged down in British politics and being reminded of the spectre of terrorism again left me reeling. So my reaction was first tears, then to join a throng of Je Suis Charlie, only to turn tail when someone described the publication as racist. Is it their failing or mine? So thanks for taking the p...

Living With Letters: Fear of flags
http://livingwithletters.blogspot.com/2015/07/fear-of-flags.html
Wednesday, 1 July 2015. I have a strange relationship with my own union flag and I put it largely down to tendencies towards racist discourse when it comes to my own state. When I was young I learnt to associate the St George and the British flag to a large degree with racism, bigotry and empire. I wasn't the only one. At University we would deliberately avoid the pubs that displayed the flag on the outside, because it was often code for narrow minded attitudes inside. Things were tough here, really tough.

Thursday, 29 November 2007. Why should Turkey join EU? Turkey should join the EU because it needs the EU just as we need Turkey.
