ABOUT | Book Arts League

http://www.bookartsleague.org/about

The Ewing Farm buildings are all that remains of a historic Boulder County homestead settled over 125 years ago at what was then called Eight-Mile Corner, now 95th and Arapahoe streets in Lafayette. This partnership with the City allows the League to continue its mission as a community resource for the traditional and contemporary arts and crafts of the book while providing a permanent home for our antique letterpress collection. The League holds Open Houses. The City of Lafayette. The Collaborative, Inc.

HISTORY | Book Arts League

http://www.bookartsleague.org/history

The Book Arts League and the Eaves Press. We spent delightful evenings discussing our passion, beautiful books. We examined John’s complicated letterpress, looked at his priceless book collection (including one of Dard Hunter’s famous works on papermaking on original handmade sheets), and listened to the organ recitals with which he accompanied his rich Welsh baritone. Thelma gave demonstrations of her binding techniques and Medhi provided Middle Eastern food well sprinkled with saffron. In 1996, Norlin ...

Eat Your Words | Jell-o Journalism

http://www.eatyourwordsboulder.com/jell-o.html

The Edible Printing Press. Participants can print something on the amazing Jell-O printing press that we call "Jell-o journalism". It's a working hectograph that people can pull prints from. Sometime after aniline dyes were invented in 1870, some kitchen Gutenberg discovered it was possible to print using a tray of gelatin very similar to the stuff you probably thought was so delectable when you were six years old.

Eat Your Words | Hints

http://www.eatyourwordsboulder.com/hints.html

The Edible Book Festival HINTS. The Los Angeles Book Arts Center has offered tips for making an edible book. Among their great suggestion joined by some of ours:. START by thinking of a specific book or specific character, scene or theme. Once you have chosen one of the above move onto the following questions:. Are you focusing on the cover? Will the book be flat, open, or be a 3-D open spread? Will your character or theme turn into a mobile or be a sculptural element? Which foods reflect the ideas best?

Eat Your Words | History

http://www.eatyourwordsboulder.com/history.html

The Edible Book Festival (Eat Your Words). The idea is simple, if wacky: Each year, around April Fools' Day, artists construct "books" out of edible materials, put them on display, then at tea-time, they consume their creations, often joined by the public. This event unites bibliophiles, book artists, and food lovers in a feast for the eyes and palate. This is a fundraiser for the Book Arts League, a nonprofit community arts organization, and allows us to continue to offer free and low-cost classes, work...
