Has anybody out there read Elizabeth Nunez' Prospero's Daughter. I'm planning to teach it next semester (instead of Aimee Cesaire's A Tempest. And I was hoping for a review or reaction from someone who knew it. To properly appreciate Mysterious Island, should I first read 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea? I have vague images from a Disney Sunday night special in my childhood, but that's about it.). BiblioPhil - http:/ www.bibliophil.org. New Science Fiction Shorts Every Day. This is your future. I've sort of moved on from my obsession with John Wyndham.: bookgeeks

http://bookgeeks.livejournal.com/2671.html

I've sort of moved on from my obsession with John Wyndham. I'd read The Chrysalids for school, but didn't discover the rest until this year. Over the winter, I read just about everything he'd ever written, but petered out amidst the early science fiction stories. My favourites were Chocky and Day of the Triffids and I'd recommend them to just about anyone. Now I'm obsessed with Cynthia Voight, an author who writes a lot of young adult books. Homecoming is the first book to read, then probably Dicey's Song.

Life of Pi: bookgeeks

Reel Big Fish hungry like the wolf [imh]. Quickly you make rash decisions. You dismiss your last allies: hope and trust. There, you've defeated yourself. Fear, which is but an impression, has triumphed over you. I'm almost finished with the book. I really enjoyed it thus far. Very moving. I even got teary a bit because I too, am vegetarian. [thos who have read, know of which i am speaking]. And I'm curious, was this based on a true story or is it complete ficiton? Post a new comment. Post a new comment.

Simon Winchester: bookgeeks

http://bookgeeks.livejournal.com/4863.html

I've just finished reading The Meaning of Everything: The Story of the Oxford English Dictionary. By Simon Winchester. It was a quick and (once I was in) engaging read, but it really just served to pique my curiosity about the OED. Is there a more comprehensive book about the subject that anyone could recommend? Also, I'm wondering whether anyone has read anything else by Simon Winchester. He's got a new book out on Krakatoa that looks fascinating. Any recommendations there? Post a new comment.

Book Geeks Unite!

An English Blog for Mr. Schiff's 10H Class. Tuesday, November 09, 2004. A Letter from Lyra. Lyra has come a long way in the first part of her journey- from Jordan College to the Gyptian Fenlands, and from innocent orphan to a girl with a new sense of her past and her future. This is certainly something to write home about- but which home, and to whom will she write? Further-what does she want to say? Who do you think Lyra wants to talk to the most: The Master of Jordan? What truths will she tell? North S...
