This just in, Philip Roth has won the 2011 Man Boo.zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Survival of the Book: December 2010
http://booksurvival.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Survival of the Book. A possibly futile attempt to protect a thing with pages and a cover from electronic destruction. Friday, December 31, 2010. Why aren't we all reading poetry again? It is not a resolution, as it's been building over the last year, and I'm now confident it will continue. I'm really loving poetry right now. Not in a read-a-bit/write-some-garbage kind of way, but in a why-did-I-ever-stop-reading-this-and-who-do-I-read-next kind of way. There's much to discover. In no particular order:.
Survival of the Book: Generational shift?
http://booksurvival.blogspot.com/2011/04/generational-shift.html
Survival of the Book. A possibly futile attempt to protect a thing with pages and a cover from electronic destruction. Friday, April 29, 2011. Sad news today out of New Haven, CT, where apparently the Labyrinth Bookstore. As soon as two weeks from now. (I initially read this news this morning in the daily installment of Shelf Awareness. I mentioned this store almost three years ago here. When we stopped there on a mini-tour of bookstores in Connecticut. It reminded me very much of Harvard Book Store.
Survival of the Book: Editors on Trial
http://booksurvival.blogspot.com/2011/05/editors-on-trial.html
Survival of the Book. A possibly futile attempt to protect a thing with pages and a cover from electronic destruction. Friday, May 13, 2011. I was interested in two recent pieces that address the hard choices editors have to make. We are punished at times because some writers feel we are punishing them - for not writing about fuzzy bunnies and cute puppies and pretty flowers. First, we have Raina Wallace over at The Rumpus. In 2005. Wallace references a post over at The Millions. I deduct this from the e...
Survival of the Book: Endangerment, Extinction
http://booksurvival.blogspot.com/2011/05/endangerment-extinction.html
Survival of the Book. A possibly futile attempt to protect a thing with pages and a cover from electronic destruction. Tuesday, May 03, 2011. That blows. But even before I read this, I read something else that very well may come to an end in this ever-changing publishing landscape, where print books are increasingly devalued. Yeah, that's right. Librarians doing choreographed dance routines with book carts. Try doing THAT with your fancy e-books, Cory Doctorow! But keeping the spirit of book cart-pushing...

five foot view: sick dream
http://fivefootview.blogspot.com/2010/05/sick-dream.html
May 18, 2010. After a successful mid-distance bike ride on saturday, i felt crummy the rest of the weekend. i thought it might be allergies because air quality was supposedly pretty nasty. but symptoms kept piling on and i was feeling quite bad by sunday late afternoon. Last night i slept almost 9.5 hours and, according to nate, sweat myself silly. but i did not have another sick dream, thankfully. what's worse than a dream that gives you no relief of your reality? five foot view: spring is here again
http://fivefootview.blogspot.com/2011/04/spring-is-here-again.html
Apr 30, 2011. Spring is here again. Dusk, and i can hear conversation on the street and birds in the trees, wind through leaves and blossoms, and cars going by. Earlier, i dug around in the dirt and caring for flowers in the front patch of ground outside the house. this afternoon was a take-care-of-the-house kind of afternoon, for us and our housemates. May 12, 2010. Warning: i am link-happy today]. This is turning into quite a lovely week. it started out with completing the final assignment for my developmental psychopathology course. And the rushing wave of relief that accompanied my submission of it to the course dropbox. although my work schedule meant i wouldn't be able to make it to the confirmation of olivia, nate's cousin, i had the good luck of making the guestlist for a taza chocolate.
