charlie farlie's boozy thursdays: March 2009
http://boozythursdays.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, 26 March 2009. A Bitter Pill - or - Johnny Be Good. That bout of uninvited sharing out of the way then, I read with some interest this week the growing debate. To allow the advertising of abortion – or pregnancy advisory – services on television and radio, as part of plans aimed at reducing the UK’s high rate of teenage pregnancies and sexual infections. This news came, rather unfortunately, alongside a trial scheme. Genuine crusties will remember the, frankly terrifying. Talk about vaginal dis...

Monday, 6 July 2009. You don't have to be mad to work here. Applying for jobs can be fun. Particularly, if by ‘can be fun’, what you actually mean is ‘how far can I push it before they think I’m just taking the piss? I sent this application letter today. I’ve, of course, obscured the relevant details, so as not to. Dear * * *,. Sunday, 6 April 2008. Misspeak when you’re misspoken to. The other day my brain swallowed a word. Completely swallowed it. I was on the phone, trying to make plans for the weekend with a good friend of mine, not famed for his flexibility, when I completely, utterly and irretrievably forgot the word ‘provisional’. The word had gone from the tip of my tongue right down my gullet, and now sits somewhere in-between my mind’s intestines and its arse. It was only the word provisional; How often do you use.

Monday, 26 May 2008. No Man is an iLand. Not being a crotchety old naysayer, it’s not often that I find myself warning others to be careful what they wish for. Unsurprisingly, it’s even less infrequent that I warn myself – after all, unless what I’m wishing for is a poke in the eye or some sort of debilitating brain disease that makes me soil myself sporadically and without warning, what harm could come from a little wishful thinking? I was having a whinge the other day, over some fridge-chilled. I felt ...

Wednesday, 19 March 2008. Are we sitting comfortably? Then I’ll begin:. Once upon a time, people smoked. And they lived, and died, happily ever after. What do you mean that’s not that scary? It’s bloody terrifying! You’re telling me that the fact there’s smoking going on out there doesn’t make you fill your pants in the most pooey of ways? See, there’s a new swear word in town; it begins with S, and appropriately enough, it rhymes with joke. I refer, of course, to the. But also of what it is legal to.

Bloggy Style: April 2009
http://sethkin.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
I ain't got much to say and what I do say is generally useless. Monday, 6 April 2009. Beware the axe wielding Welshman. Writing a blog is a tricky business. I know many writers possess the enviable ability to eject the contents of their brains across the page with faultless eloquence, but for most of us there is more than a little finicking involved. Yet it’s very difficult to keep such a discerning audience entertained. Stories about my collection of antique snorkels leave people in jaw droppe...The pla...

I ain't got much to say and what I do say is generally useless. Saturday, 4 February 2012. Please Sort It Out. Arsene, I'm addressing you directly now: please stop basing your transfer strategy on the best possible outcome. You should have learned by now that things are very unlikely to work out this way. You may be right that, when everyone is fit, you have numerous options at the back and in midfield, but when in living memory has this ever happened? The answer appears to be no-one. Foolish. If van...
Blogging a Dead Horse: Travel Sickness

Blogging a Dead Horse. The musings of a model graduate. In an Airfix sense. Tuesday, 26 August 2008. No one would derive even a modicum of pleasure by saying, "I told you so". It is probably nothing more than my own neurosis regarding manned flight. That leaves me with the sense that not a day passes without some sort of apocalyptic incident. A review of Freakonomics. A book dedicated to exploding 'conventional wisdom' by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner. Summarises on such misconception as follows:.

Blogging a Dead Horse. The musings of a model graduate. In an Airfix sense. Friday, 27 June 2008. The trouble with first impressions," someone once smugged, "Is that you only get to make one.". The irony here, of course, is that any swan-necked debutante who happened to waft within earshot when this epigram gushed forth would have formed the first impression of its provider being a nob. (Incidentally, who do you think came up with this maxim, sharper than lemon eye drops? Why have these expectations deri...

Blogging a Dead Horse. The musings of a model graduate. In an Airfix sense. Monday, 28 April 2008. Some things Never Change. This weekend saw 50,000 (definitely non-fascist) music lovers descend upon Victoria Park as part of the Thirtieth anniversary of 'Rock Against Racism', the festival that united disparate social groups and raised awareness of racism through the medium of rock music. And I am trying very hard not to be totally cynical about its re-enactment. 30 years ago racial tensions were far less...

Blogging a Dead Horse. The musings of a model graduate. In an Airfix sense. Thursday, 27 March 2008. Something Silly, Really. When people talk about irrational fears, they involve things like plasticine, squirrels or Pete Waterman. They are irrational because, barring a rabid attack from a grey rodent in a park, these things will not hurt you. I have one major fear, and there is nothing irrational about it. I am afraid of flying. I perspire, knuckles turning pallid as they desperately grip the polyester ...

Blogging a Dead Horse. The musings of a model graduate. In an Airfix sense. Tuesday, 8 July 2008. You might have guessed this by looking at my pixelated visage, but I hate haircuts. They are an activity that makes filling in a tax return feel like a naked fire-walking party. You count the forty-six rings it takes an overworked receptionist to be jolted out of her hairspray-induced stupor and answer as you call up to book "an appointment". It sounds like an STD check-up. You then go for the wash, where a ...

Blogging a Dead Horse. The musings of a model graduate. In an Airfix sense. Wednesday, 29 October 2008. New serious blog (hence the lack of exclamation marks). As a student journalist, I have been encouraged to work on my 'online presence'. Apparently anyone can see what a pillock I am by looking at this blog, even potential employers. With this in mind, I have my new, authoritative and utterly serious blog. Check it out here. Perhaps from now on I'll hide the names of people I disparage. Charlie.

A site for the elegant mixing of booze and tea. The glory of color bursts unannounced from the lush flower beds. The pitched battle of sand versus surf ever rages on. 左からMark Middleton, Chauncey Black, Eric Williams, Levi Little. それから3か月ちょっと、番組の企画でAloe Blaccとのマッシュアップということがわかり、.

Life is best served with cocktails and a shot of reality. Sunday, April 30, 2017. HALLOWEEN AND THE CHURCH: You Say Witch Like Its A Bad Thing! The answer, I discovered, is steeped in a bit religious confusion. Now that we know Halloween's big 4 D's: death, disobedience, demons, and destruction are manifestations of the Christian side and not the seething underworld, can we finally lighten up people? By not joining the two together to begin with. Keep them in their own separate compartments (coffins?
