Grey-Headed Kingfisher Afrikaans Name. Lumwana Mine Lease Elna’s Notes. The grey head and chestnut belly are diagnostic. Their size is 20-21 cm and sexes are alike. They are a locally common resident breeding intra-African migrant. They frequent well developed broad-leafed woodland and savanna, usually near water but are non-aquatic.

Three days ago I acquired a white-faced owl. It had been hit by a car the night before and ended up on the bonnet, rather dazed. On examination it was found to have an injured left eye and a broken wing. The following day my sister helped to put a cardboard splint on its broken wing. That night I force-fed it with mincemeat.
