http://bpenningtonart.blogspot.com/2014/01/selma-comes-to-charlotte.html
Thursday, January 30, 2014. Selma" comes to Charlotte. A 6 ft x 9 ft mural created in 1965 by Barbara Pennington, powerfully. Depicts the three weeks in 1965 where protesters and law enforcement clashed, leading to the pinnacle march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama and the Voting Rights Act. In honor of Black History month, this historical painting reminds us of our dark past and celebrates our strength to break free of it. Exhibition at Charlotte Fine Art Gallery beginning February 4.
B Pennington Fine Art Blog: September 2013

Wednesday, September 18, 2013. Before fall is upon us, I thought it appropriate to include a painting that reminds me of the best summer days. Summer Outing" is the summer ideal—sunny and happy with a bounty of flowers at our feet. This oil and oil stick on canvas belongs to a group of line compositions Barbara Pennington completed in the later years of her life. The swirling lines of color seem to define the landscape, while large applications of color bring it to life. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Saturday, August 31, 2013. Photo courtesy of Andi Perullo de Ledesma. The picture above is a self-portrait Aunt Barbara completed in 1965. It sits on a paint-splattered stool that once stood in her studio next to her easel. I will miss going to the studio to see her latest work and hearing her explanation of her vision. If you have a question about her work, please contact me. In the interim, I'll periodically share stories of the woman I knew and images of the work she left behind. Photo courtesy of...

Tuesday, October 29, 2013. The first time I saw "Wild Plums," it was on display with works from several other artists in the lobby of the Bama Theatre in downtown Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I knew immediately when I walked into the room that she had painted it. It was unmistakably Aunt Barbara. Full of life and oh so colorful. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Reproduction of images are prohibited. Selma" comes to Charlotte.
