Monday, October 24, 2011. This past weekend was memorable- the weather was perfect, and Bill came to visit me for the weekend! We had a great time walking around the gardens together enjoying the colors of autumn. We also cooked a squash variety called 'Dickinson' (the squash that Libby's uses for their canned pumpkin) and used some of it for baking and froze the leftovers. This is one huge squash! Our first stop was at Rutgers University's Eco-Complex- the environmental research and extension center for the land-grant university. Sunday, April 22, 2012. My housemate Lynn and I went through the Gardens twice last week, taking dozens of pictures of individual tulips along the way. I have chosen some of my favorites for this blog. Due to the diversity of tulips, they are divided into 15 or so categories, including the following:. As the name implies, one of the first tulips to bloom. One cup-shaped flower per stem. Early-blooming double flowers (more petals than the single kind). Flowers are thin with pointed and reflexed petals.

Last weekend, three of my dear friends from the Gardening Angel (a garden maintenance company in northeast Grand Rapids I worked at for most of two summers in college) came to visit me at Longwood! Although Saturday was a little chilly, Sunday was picturesque! Cheryl, Nancy, and Cindy arrived Friday night- just in time for me to host them for dinner! Sunday, August 28, 2011. As I'm sure most of you heard over the past week, we experienced quite the week in terms of weather here on the east coast! Currently, I am sitting on my porch enjoying a pleasantly sunny evening. There are a few trees down near the woods and my sunflowers (8 feet tall! Didn't survive the strong winds last night, but as far as I know, most of the buildings are in good shape, and the power only flickered on and off during the night! These logs are prefect for displaying my plants!
