Marco’s Pool Hall, Grove Street, Edinburgh | Edinburgh Pubs
https://brewmook.wordpress.com/2014/11/12/marcos-pool-hall-grove-street-edinburgh
A catalogue of pubs in central Edinburgh. Marco’s Pool Hall, Grove Street, Edinburgh. November 12, 2014. In Edinburgh Castle Tour. I was lucky enough to be invited along for the “press and bloggers” preview night. In the interests of full disclosure, they plied us with free beer and nibbles, and we got to christen the tables. All kegs: Heineken, Fosters, Amstel, John Smith’s, Caledonian Three Hop, Strongbow. I’m surprised I didn’t spot anything Guinness-like (or I’m blind)....A subsidiary of Heineken.
The Beer Kitchen, Lothian Road, Edinburgh | Edinburgh Pubs
https://brewmook.wordpress.com/2015/08/13/the-beer-kitchen-lothian-road-edinburgh
A catalogue of pubs in central Edinburgh. The Beer Kitchen, Lothian Road, Edinburgh. August 13, 2015. In Edinburgh Castle Tour. The Beer Kitchen is Innis and Gunn’s first bar (see The BeerCast. For juicy details), restoring the premises to a pub rather than a strip joint. The last pub on this spot was The Bull and Bush I think, something in the region of 10 years ago. Website: thebeerkitchen.co.uk. Facebook: The Beer Kitchen. The Jolly Botanist, Morrison Street, Edinburgh. August 13, 2015 at 2:43 pm.
#273: Browns, George Street, Edinburgh | Edinburgh Pubs
https://brewmook.wordpress.com/2014/08/26/273-browns-george-street-edinburgh
A catalogue of pubs in central Edinburgh. 273: Browns, George Street, Edinburgh. August 26, 2014. In Edinburgh Castle Tour. We nearly talked ourselves out of Browns because it’s more of a restaurant, but there is a bar and some tables that don’t seem that amenable to dining. It’s quite a pleasant, spacious interior with a classy appearance, some big plants, a brass-topped bar, dark wood and some old features like original cornices. Browns is a nationwide chain, owned by Mitchells and Butlers. Fill in you...
Sober October | Edinburgh Pubs
https://brewmook.wordpress.com/2014/10/11/sober-october
A catalogue of pubs in central Edinburgh. October 11, 2014. You’ve probably heard of Sober October. By now, a charity fundraising drive by Macmillan cancer support. Encouraging people to lay off the bevvy for a whole month. With this and “Dryuary” in January (such a bad brand name), I’ve noticed plenty of complaints from pubs, offies and breweries about these occasional alcohol-free drives which put a small dent in their bottom line. To them I say this: quit moaning and embrace it! In Germany, drivers an...

Evening News wrong on best Edinburgh pubs - The Bar Fly
http://www.thebarfly.co.uk/2014/12/evening-news-best-edinburgh-pubs
The Definitive Guide to Edinburgh Pubs. The Bar Fly Edinburgh Pub Map. About The Bar Fly. Evening News wrong on best Edinburgh pubs. December 21, 2014. A picture of an actual Edinburgh pub rather than a cheesy American-looking stock shot. Knowing my great interest in Edinburgh’s pubs, a number of my acquaintances have recently drawn my attention to the Edinburgh Evening News’ Best Bar 2014 competition. Do you agree, they ask? Why was it about selling papers? When they set out on this competition back in ...
The BeerCast Beacons - The BeerCast
http://thebeercast.com/2015/08/beacons.html
On Aug 3, 2015 in Pubs. What’s the best time of day to go the the pub? The time that you fancy a beer, obviously. But the thing about these living-rooms-at-length are that they cater for all kinds of situations. And that’s as true for the cliched ‘life events’ that we celebrate there (wedding receptions, final exams, the conclusion of a life) as it is for the actual point of the clock when we cross the threshold. I’ve covered this before. And more importantly, why would you want to walk past? 8216;All Da...

Walking and Crawling: A short halt at Haltwhistle: 18th July 2015
http://walkingandcrawling.blogspot.com/2015/07/a-short-halt-at-haltwhistle-18th-july.html
Thursday, 23 July 2015. A short halt at Haltwhistle: 18th July 2015. This weekend I had hoped to head down to Stranraer where The Grapes. Pub was holding its annual beer festival, but the winds that had postponed the Open Golf at St Andrews had also decided to play havoc with the overhead lines on the train services to Ayrshire; summertime in Scotland can be. Outward travel was as follows:-. Train: Glasgow Central to Carlisle (Virgin Trains, frequent). It bills itself as the town at the Centre of Britain...

Walking and Crawling: February 2015
http://walkingandcrawling.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Thursday, 26 February 2015. Falling from Dunkeld to Bankfoot: 21st February 2015. After a bit of a hiatus caused by some family commitments and the 6-Nations rugby, it was good to be able to plan a weekend walk out in the winter countryside. This Saturday I decided to head out to lovely Perthshire where I could combine a walk around some woodlands and waterfalls in The Hermitage. Just outside Dunkeld, with a sampling of some Dunkeld pubs and a return visit to the nearby Bankfoot Inn. I walked the short d...

Walking and Crawling: Annan & Andrews Ales: 24th August 2013
http://walkingandcrawling.blogspot.com/2013/08/annan-andrews-ales-24th-august-2013.html
Wednesday, 28 August 2013. Annan and Andrews Ales: 24th August 2013. In a larger map. Outward transport was as follows:-. Train: Glasgow Central to Carlisle. Is based. This took me across the River Annan via the new footbridge south of the town centre, well used today by a steady stream of runners out in the midday sun. These reminded me of holiday homes I had seen in Southport. The copper is/was part of an old metal chocolate container into which Andrew has installed the dual heating elements. Andrew on...

Walking and Crawling: A walk down the Eden Valley from Lazonby to Armathwaite: 4th July 2015
http://walkingandcrawling.blogspot.com/2015/07/a-walk-down-eden-valley-from-lazonby-to.html
Wednesday, 8 July 2015. A walk down the Eden Valley from Lazonby to Armathwaite: 4th July 2015. With the continuing work in the Winchburgh Tunnel. On the main railway line from Glasgow to Edinburgh it's actually been far quicker to get to Carlisle than to Edinburgh during this Summer of 2015, so this weekend I decided to head down that way and then get the train further down the River Eden valley to Lazonby and Kirkoswald where the 6th Kirkoswald Beer and Music Festival. Outward travel was as follows:-.
