The World As I See It.: 04 May 2014

http://brianswildlifephotos.blogspot.com/2014_05_04_archive.html

The World As I See It. My Wildlife in photos. Tuesday, 6 May 2014. As you are all aware I have a liking for close up/ macro photography. I love nothing more than being on my hands and knees photographing some wonderful small critter or another. It hurts my knees and back something chronic though. I've never seen one before, it was only maybe 3-4 mm in body length. I'm guessing its not reached its maturity yet and may look completely different when it does. In addition, what reference books do you use?

The World As I See It.: Rallying around the Crossbills

http://brianswildlifephotos.blogspot.com/2015/02/rallying-around-crossbills.html

The World As I See It. My Wildlife in photos. Thursday, 19 February 2015. Rallying around the Crossbills. On no less than 4 occasions I've been down to the Forest to try and get shots of Crossbills. They have been much photo'd lately and I thought it only right that I give it a go. Suffice to say I had to bite my tongue really hard, and indeed I then drove off. Fuming. I've put the one shot on Smugmug, but it will hopefully be replaced with better. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). LINKS- Other Sites o...

The World As I See It.: Hurry up and wait.

http://brianswildlifephotos.blogspot.com/2015/03/hurry-up-and-wait.html

The World As I See It. My Wildlife in photos. Thursday, 26 March 2015. Hurry up and wait. Hurry up and wait was a term we used to use in the army all the time. It invariably meant a period of intense activity followed by a long wait. I've had both my 600mm lens and my 5D mk 3 in for work. The only photos I have to show you are ones that I got on my last visit to the Forest. I'm looking forward to getting everything back and getting out there and doing some summer migrants. Don't you just love Spring?

The World As I See It. My Wildlife in photos. Thursday, 1 May 2014. First of the year. Since my last post I have a couple of chances to get out with the camera. I've done mostly small stuff, But for the first time ever and with the first of the year I have a photo of a Cuckoo. It's not a good photo but it's a photo. But i've managed to just about get a working record shot. Star of the small stuff is a toss up between this,. Come back soon, will have more to show. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

The World As I See It.: 18 May 2014

http://brianswildlifephotos.blogspot.com/2014_05_18_archive.html

The World As I See It. My Wildlife in photos. Monday, 19 May 2014. Well it's been a fabulous few days and I feel as if I've made the most of it with lots of new stuff photographed. I've seen the Cuckoo again. In almost the same spot, but unfortunately still from a distance. I would contemplate sticking my hide up but unfortunately its right next to a road and you know what that would mean. I added 3 beautiful butterflies to the Smugmug album and some stunning caterpillars too. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Wildlife Snapshots: March 2014

http://wildsnaps.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

From the South Wales borders and beyond. Thursday, March 27, 2014. Another go at the raised puddle brought 2 new species for the 'drinking' albums. Any guesses for this one? The collared dove was one of the new species, and the infinity branch is a definite improvement,. So did you guess the first bird? Drinking species 26 - treecreeper. It was a bit nervous at first, but eventually settled for long enough . and again I hadn't got things quite right, with a piece of branch obscuring the reflection. As th...

Wildlife Snapshots: January 2015

http://wildsnaps.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

From the South Wales borders and beyond. Thursday, January 29, 2015. Hanging out the bunting(s). Links to this post. Thursday, January 08, 2015. I've written before about our local seasonal wetland - the Nedern. In winter the fields flood and we get an influx of wildfowl - wigeon, tufted duck, shoveller, pintail, teal, shelduck - and waders, especially redshank. I haven't ever given them the time they deserve but the angles and light can be troublesome and it's hard to find a good viewpoint. I did 'visua...

Wildlife Snapshots: August 2014

http://wildsnaps.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

From the South Wales borders and beyond. Monday, August 04, 2014. Looking cute as always I was kicking myself later for blowing this shot - not too bad at this resolution ,but not sharp if you go in. I doubt I'll ever see a red squirrel atop a mushroom again! Birds -wise I was surprised to see plenty of bullfinches although the siskins were more expected. Not a tit, and not a bird I expected to see either. The male appeared shortly afterwards and confirmed the identification. Sadly though I'm not sure th...

Wildlife Snapshots: May 2014

http://wildsnaps.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

From the South Wales borders and beyond. Wednesday, May 07, 2014. A successful unsuccessful weekend. All in all it was a good bank holiday weekend. We finally got the temporary stock fencing up in the 'meadow' (or rank pasture as it is more actually described at present). Something satisfying about aching muscles, blisters, nettle stings and bramble scratches for those of us chained to a desk all week. So was it a disappointment? Wouldn't mind a few more unsuccessful days like those! Links to this post.

Wildlife Snapshots: July 2014

http://wildsnaps.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

From the South Wales borders and beyond. Wednesday, July 23, 2014. I guess I don't have to say it was the young cubs that were the star draw here, even though I also got some of my favourite adult shots of the trip too. The night followed the usual ritual - settle into the hides, watch the guides put down some feed and wait for the bears (after the gulls). On the second night the Italian photographers next door put some honey on the trees in the hope of seeing the bears climb up. The swamp also offered a...

Wildlife Snapshots: May 2015

http://wildsnaps.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

From the South Wales borders and beyond. Tuesday, May 19, 2015. Spring is sprung . My grebe project has come to an unexpected stop, and I'm not sure it will restart this year. More to follow in due course. I haven't done too much photography otherwise, except when I have been out walking the dog which is a shame because I had planned to try and work on my flower photography this year. I've even bought some cheap LED lights to play around with rather than use flash. As well as Jodie Randall. These are jus...

From the South Wales borders and beyond. Friday, February 28, 2014. Iolo Williams State of nature Speech. I meant to post about this in the past, but it got lost amongst everything else. If you missed this first time around and you want to hear a powerful, passionate speech about the changes we have wrought on our environment listen to this . and don't worry the Welsh bit only lasts a minute or so! In total it lasts about 15 minutes, but it's worth it. Links to this post. Sunday, February 23, 2014. It se...

Wildlife Snapshots: June 2015

http://wildsnaps.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

From the South Wales borders and beyond. Tuesday, June 02, 2015. Spring is sprung (2) . To close a few snaps of one of our local orchids - common twayblade. I didn't take the tripod (yes dogwalking again) which was a mistake as my framing was off at the bottom, but at least it's a few in the bank as it were. A few more pics of the birds in the picasa web albums. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. My American Wildlife Blog. Http:/ wildsnapsusa.blogspot.com/. Wildlife Snapshots: March 2015

http://wildsnaps.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

From the South Wales borders and beyond. Thursday, March 19, 2015. What is your view of introduced species? I could live without pheasants (and the adders would thank us), but love to see little owls. If there were ring-necked parakeets locally I'd go and have a look. Canada geese? In truth I probably see them as more of a nuisance species, and I've never headed out to snap them. And one of a tufted duck. Hopefully the main project will work out. Here's one snap to start. Tuesday, 28 September 2010. This is not a new blogg as such. Anybody who has read my previous effort would notice the title,( Jacdaws evicted) but would find nothing relating to the subject. The fault is all mine, so now we,ll try to bring some sense to it. On Saturday Warwick came up to borrow my ladder to clear the Jackdaws nest from the village hall roof and he and I went over to do same, we cleared the outside then went to do the same in the hall. Will try to do better in future. Green and Gt Spotted...

The World As I See It. My Wildlife in photos. Wednesday, 15 June 2016. Hello all, I'm closing the blog down. I have decided to just concentrate on the images rather than the chat that goes with it. You will no doubt have noticed that I've not put anything on here for 4-5 months whereas I'm continually adding to the Smugmug site. Doing the blog was great for the first few years but as time has progressed I find that I have less and less to say. Sunday, 7 February 2016. It's been a while. Day after day of ...
