William Shakespeare -- British Lit -- English authors, writers, poets and more

http://www.britishlit.com/william-shakespeare.htm

William Shakespeare (1564 1616) wasn't just a playwright, though his 35 known plays are classic. Shakespeare also wrote 154 sonnets and, along with his fellow thespians, had no problem playing bit parts in some of his lavish productions. Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet are his most famous plays though his way with words brought many original expressions like "to be or not to be" or "something wicked this way comes" into our language's lexicon.

Charles Dickens -- British Lit -- English authors, writers, poets and more

http://www.britishlit.com/charles-dickens.htm

Charles Dickens (1812-1870) started out as a journalist. Yes, like Mark Twain in America, Dickens had a daily pulse of the populace before embarking on his novelist ways. His works were originally published serially in British periodicals. Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, and David Copperfield are his best-selling novels though no holiday seems complete without a retelling of Dickens' classic 'Twas the Night Before Christmas.

3

Charlotte Bronte -- British Lit -- English authors, writers, poets and more

http://www.britishlit.com/charlotte-bronte.htm

Charlotte Bronte (1816-1855) was the eldest of the amazing Bronte sisters. Ironically, she was also the last to die. Along with her sisters Emily. And Anne, the three 19th-century novelists produced epics. Charlotte wrote Jane Eyre while her younger sister Emily authored Wuthering Heights.

Geoffrey Chaucer - Jeffrey Chaucer -- British Lit -- English authors, writers, poets and more

http://www.britishlit.com/geoffrey-chaucer.htm

Geoffrey Chaucer (1345-1400) was one of the earliest and most beloved British poets. His greatest work is clearly The Canterbury Tales. It is written as a series of stories from the perspective of a group of pilgrims bound for the shrine of St. Thomas Becket, in Canterbury of course.

British Literature Lit 12

British Literature Lit 12. Friday, January 4, 2008. Cont Romantic and Victorian Period. Many poets did not mean love with the word romantic.
