Plays - Britt Kaufmann

http://www.brittkaufmann.com/drama

An Uncivil Union: the Battle of Burnsville. Premiered at Parkway Playhouse in June 2011. In April of 1864, forty Appalachian mountain women raided the Confederate storehouses in Burnsville, North Carolina, and made off with sixty bushels of wheat. The next day, approximately 75 men stormed the same place and made off with 100 new guns and 500 lbs. of bacon. While the names of the women have been lost, their actions are inspiring. About - Britt Kaufmann

http://www.brittkaufmann.com/about

Continues to be a stay-at-home mom of three school-aged children. Now that they're in school a good portion of the day, this means she is finally living in a relatively clean house. No, that's a lie. It means she has more time for her writing. (Also a lie. She likes to volunteer.). Her poetry and prose have appeared in various publications: Kakalak Poetry Anthology. 2007 and 2008), Main Street Rag. And The Pedestal Magazine. A founding planner, the Carolina Mountains Literary Festival. And the North Caro...

Interesting Theory: March 2013

http://brittkaufmann.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Friday, March 29, 2013. I know. Not quite the right sentiments. It's kinda along the lines of the inward chuckle I do when the Southern Baptists say, "Oh, we don't celebrate Lent in our church." (Uh, we don't either. ) But honestly, this has been a particularly lenty Lent, and I'm over it. Guess I'm a part of the crowd yelling "Crucify him! And let's get to the good stuff. Interesting Theory: Chickens in Winter

http://brittkaufmann.blogspot.com/2015/02/chickens-in-winter.html

Thursday, February 19, 2015. The crazy hen and the persistently peeping chick get the cush digs of a cardboard box in the insulated garage with a warming light on them. They get checked on multiple times a day and are given fresh spinach scraps and leftover spaghetti as dinner clean-up merits. Perhaps it is a lesson in following your instincts, even when, logically, the timing doesn't seem right- even when tragedy is all around. There is still new life. There is still a warming light. Interesting Theory: January 2015

http://brittkaufmann.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Monday, January 26, 2015. It's time to start blogging again. I never stopped having a million ideas to write about. but somehow, I persist in not writing them down. Stuck in my head. I am perpetually stuck in my head. Yes, I'm in the middle of a new play, but I have been for so long now that it hardly seems like an excuse worth making. At first, I theorized I was saving myself for the new play. Put your energies there,. But I am here- showing up- starting to write something again. Links to this post.

Interesting Theory: February 2015

http://brittkaufmann.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Tuesday, February 24, 2015. Font Geek (Part One of "Designing A Season of Show Posters"). In case you didn't already know, I love fonts. Each year, that's where I begin when designing posters for the Parkway Playhouse Mainstage Season. I research the themes, content and mood of each play and then look for a font that in some ways corresponds. It matters to me because I think it matters, subconsciously, to the viewer to- whether it registers with them or not. I frequently go to dafont.com. Doesn't have a ...

Interesting Theory: December 2012

http://brittkaufmann.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

Wednesday, December 19, 2012. Have you thanked your child's teacher? What struck me was that every one of those teachers, aids and administrators came to school Monday with the underlying agreement that they would take a bullet for any one of our kids. That's heavy stuff. I could see it in their eyes. They would do it. We have no business fussing at them this week. In fact, we need to thank them. Teachers need our support. Results (instead of years of experience or education). As non-teachers, we need to...

Between the Tackles: October 2011

http://betweenthetacklesplay.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

A play written by two women about three men watching football. Monday, October 31, 2011. The Kiss of Death (Times Two). So, I just kept my big mouth shut about the whole deal. Until I went to Britt Kaufmann's to watch said Steelers/Pats game with a slew of other fans and mentioned this failed plan to her. She, of course, strongly encouraged me to go forth with said post on Monday - which I agreed to do, if (and only if) the Steelers managed to hang on for the win. This time around. All bets are off, ...

http://betweenthetacklesplay.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

A play written by two women about three men watching football. Thursday, September 27, 2012. Review in Local Media. Found online at WKYK. Review in the Asheville Citizen Times. We'll post the link once they put it online, but here's a photo of the print version in Wednesday's paper. Wednesday, September 26, 2012. OK I admit it. I googled Steph's and my name to see what would turn up. But look what I found! Another independent review. I have to idea who this is and can't seem to find a name. Thank you to ...

Between the Tackles: Lights Down - Lights Up

http://betweenthetacklesplay.blogspot.com/2012/10/lights-down-lights-up.html

A play written by two women about three men watching football. Wednesday, October 17, 2012. Lights Down - Lights Up. It's over. The set has been dismantled and put away. The cast and crew have all moved on to other projects. (My husband and I took the kids to the Steelers v. Titans game- which was awesome and horrible at the same time.). But Steph and I haven't moved on from Between the Tackles. Then How did what he said strike us? Then Back to work. PS - True story: Steph's husband came by the other day...

Between the Tackles: August 2012

http://betweenthetacklesplay.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

A play written by two women about three men watching football. Friday, August 31, 2012. One scene in particular. And I'm not telling you which one. There is the side of me which wants to say, "No. No. Let me explain it to you and prove to you why it should be the way it is." But they know a lot more about what works on stage than I do. And I tried this on the phone. it's not totally effective. (haha). I don't know how to make it better." But I don't want to be a quitter. For a stay-at-home mom who doesn'...

Britt Kari`s pedagogikkblogg

Interesting Theory

Tuesday, April 12, 2016. Madness. Absurdity. Ridiculousness. Call it what you will, but the last two weeks have been entirely too filled with it. To add to the ridiculousness of this list, I believe all items could be followed by #firstworldproblems. 1 - One day I spent 10 hours on a full tour bus with 4th and 5th graders which included a dinner stop at Golden Corral. 4 - I saw friends I hadn't seen in more than a decade because we gathered to bury a 41 year old classmate of ours. 11 - Picture me, pulled...
