Wednesday, August 8, 2012. Magone Lake is a mountain gem located north of John Day and Prairie City. I got there from John Day by driving west on US 26 to Mount Vernon, turning right on US 395, and heading north 10 miles before turning right onto East Beech Creek Road. Some nice country along East Beech Creek road. The road is good gravel but is only one lane wide. Drive with care, look for turn-outs that have been provided. Nice pine forest en route to Magone Lake. Entrance to Magone Lake recreation area.

Monday, August 6, 2012. This is a nice loop trip one can take from La Grande through the scenic Blue Mountains to Anthony Lakes and back. There are no services available along the route. The loop is roughly 130 miles. Allow about four hours, and more time than that if you want to take more time seeing sights. Nice area about a mile or two up the road from Hilgard Park. Monday, June 16, 2008. ROAD TRIP 2: LA GRANDE to ECHO on OLD U.S. HIGHWAY 30. The route of U.S. Highway 30 has largely been replaced by Interstate 84 in Oregon. However, there are still sections of Old Highway 30 you can drive on. These sections are generally narrow and winding, and they lead to scenic views, old towns and plenty of history. 00 Starting at Island and Adams. Looking west from just past Island and Adams, into downtown La Grande. 11 Head west up the hill on old Highway 30 and leave La Grande.
