For those similarly obsessed. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Newer posts →. Wrights Royal – Step by Step. May 6, 2012. I make no apologies for this fly. Its my guilty secret. I came across it in Oregon or Colorado a few years ago, and it would take cut throat trout and brown trou. T when other flies were proving useless, so on my return, I’d deliberatly kept a couple, using them as models, I tied some up – just to see if they had a place in the UK. I’m not actually sure of its name, ...

Flyfishing the River Irwell and other Streams.: August 2015

Monday, 31 August 2015. River Tonge and Bradshaw Brook 30 Aug 15. Went to Leverhulme Park where Bradshaw Brook joins the river Tonge to fish and check out a "No Fishing" sign on Bradshaw Brook that Dave Bendle had asked me about. I also did my usual and photographed the invasive weeds on both waters, there is lots of it down there. Doesn't stop me casting a fly and catching fish, but it has to be done with care as the bank side under growth is very lush. I was now up to where Bradshaw Brook joins and I b...

The Riverman Diaries: March 2014

I would love to live like a river flows, carried by the surprise of its own unfolding.” John O'Donohue. Friday, 28 March 2014. Alchemy On The River Dore. After the experience of last week, a fruitless trip to the River Honddu, Tuesday's destination required a little more thought and consideration. The waters of the spring fed Honddu were bitterly cold and the river in parsimonious mood. A couple more weeks are probably needed before the place wakes up. But what to do in the meantime? Prosaic Welsh or Gau...

Thursday, 31 July 2014. Ewood Bridge and Bradshaw Brook 31 Jul 14. Some rain over night and lots more forecast for tonight and tomorrow. Went a day early to Ewood Bridge for the August kick sample, the river was up a little and had colour. The sample was pretty much the same as last month but still well down on last years figures. One difference was Water Snails, the first time that any had turned up in my sample. Although it did not look very promising I decide to have a fish. Thursday, July 31, 2014.

Flyfishing the River Irwell and other Streams.: September 2014

Tuesday, 23 September 2014. The Irwell Ladyshore 22 Sept 14. The Irwell is very low but as Ladyshore is after the Roch comes in there is usually a fair bit of water and so it proved. Fished the weir and up with 2 spiders, nothing doing. Sat for a bit whilst i thought about a change, then tried a Copper John nymph fished across and down, same result. Moved down the riffle not hoping for much, when another take which did not stay on for as long as the first one. No joy there, or from the weeded area below.

Stumbling through life whilst daydreaming about fishing. Monday, 13 July 2015. My mother said I should never write in books. 8221; and “yawn, yawn, yawn” make me smile and have recorded my first impressions of reading that great novel. Incidentally, I don’t actually like the book that much but I did enjoy the BBC seres, you know, the one where Colin Firth jumps in a lake. In the Bodmer museum in Geneva. With time to spare, I took three steps forward and saw a lovely, dark inlet. Again, I willed my fl...

Stumbling through life whilst daydreaming about fishing. Tuesday, 26 February 2013. 8220;Are you any good at swimming? 8220;Yes, I’m very good”. 8220;Hmm, I’m not bad. Will you be my best friend? The boxes were soon explained by the fact that her parents lived in Indonesia and so her uniform had been sent ahead. I’ll never understand quite why she needed that quantity of bras though. She didn’t come with us again but I think she remembers the day fondly, she certainly has been interested in my fish...

A Flyfisherlady's Life: 50 Shades of Grayling
http://www.flyfisherlady.co.uk/2012/10/50-shades-of-grayling.html
Stumbling through life whilst daydreaming about fishing. Monday, 29 October 2012. 50 Shades of Grayling. Right now, grayling are the species du jour. However, during my childhood, grayling were considered to be a pest, taking up resources for trout. I’ve always thought that they were beautiful creatures with their De Stijl. Charles Ritz, A Flyfisher's Life. Monday, October 29, 2012. 30 October 2012 at 08:36. I enjoyed reading your experiences on the enigmatic grayling (very inventive post title! Yes it w...

A Flyfisherlady's Life: Wannabe
http://www.flyfisherlady.co.uk/2012/02/wannabe.html
Stumbling through life whilst daydreaming about fishing. Saturday, 18 February 2012. Oh dear. I’m here again ranting about wimmin and fishin’ again. It’s very boring, and this is no way to start a posting. My lovely friend, who runs the brilliant Ladies Fishing. Asked the editor of a very well known British Magazine when they would feature women on the front cover. Here was his response:. Did they take girls to the supermarket? More women have taken up fly fishing and its popularity is growing. We we...

Stumbling through life whilst daydreaming about fishing. Sunday, 18 August 2013. Looking Back Beyond the Smoke. Emerging from the “pre-math” and aftermath of getting married has meant that writing anything has been low on the priority list. Quite frankly, after writing eighty thank you letters can you blame me for not wanting to write much more? However, a stern word from my Boss. Has forced me to take action. However, here a four fags to remember, because I miss them. 8221; It’s an aggressive whis...
