Bruce Gill's Photography Blog: February 2009
http://brucegill.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
Monday, 2 February 2009. Red Harry "Give me all your nuts". Well we're snowed in at a cottage in Cumbria! Oddly email and internet work but the phones are dead and the roads are invisible. Here's a picture of Harry the Red Squirrel. He's come every morning for a feed! More to come when I get home. I'm still trying for one of him in the snow. Posted by Bruce Gill. Bruce Gill's Photography Blog: Project 8
http://brucegill.blogspot.com/2009/03/project-8.html
Friday, 6 March 2009. Following from Project 9's images this is where I went. I found this interesting afterwards. Odd. It seemed silly. Again, I'm rushing through this blog as I really need to get on with the course and not worry so much about it all. It's all still a little uncomfortable learning in a structured manner. And my final image! F71 - 1/50 - iso400}. Posted by Bruce Gill. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Bishops Stortford, Herts, United Kingdom. View my complete profile. Ideas to follow up.
Bruce Gill's Photography Blog: November 2008
http://brucegill.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Saturday, 15 November 2008. F71, 6", iso100, 105mm. I've been reading through "Photography, A concise history" and found a few images in there that really interest me. One was of an apple named, "untitled" or "Galaxy Apple" by Paul Caponigro. F20, 25", iso400, 105mm. F20, 25", iso400, 105mm. F20, 30", iso400, 105mm. F20, 30", iso400, 105mm (retouched). Also I found a 1:1 crop (square crop) worked best in my opinion, though my apple was very round rather than the oval one in the original by Paul Caponigro.
Bruce Gill's Photography Blog: Project 7
http://brucegill.blogspot.com/2009/03/project-7.html
Thursday, 5 March 2009. Needed to get cracking! Objects in different positions in the frame. Centered in the frame. A little off center. Close to the edge. A little way off centered. Close to the edge. On the pictures of Sammy my dog I preferred the image where Sam is close to the edge. this is helped by her pose i think, looking in to the center of the image. Again for the National Trust picture I preferred the object to be to the edge. Posted by Bruce Gill. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The obser...
Bruce Gill's Photography Blog: October 2008
http://brucegill.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html
Friday, 31 October 2008. After seeing the "Ghost Town? Empty Homes in London" on ITV and having a chat with another OCA student (see the comments to my "London's Empty Homes" post) I've just remembered a book called, "Hide That Can" by Deirdre O'Callaghan. It's a very true and open book containing some great portraits of the homeless men staying at Arlington House, a hostel in Camden, London. Posted by Bruce Gill. Labels: Ideas to follow up. Project 43: Through the day. Project 44: Low sun. An exercise in shooting in low sunlight. Can’t believe it’s taken me so long to post these, all taken one day in early december in the city of Trinidad, Cuba (the third one was taken that morning, the rest in the evening). 1 Frontal lighting – sun behind the camera. One Response to “Project 44: Low sun”. Feed for this Entry. On February 12, 2010. I like the back lit car with the people on the pavement. Project 43: Through the day. Enter your comment here.

Tuesday, 13 September 2011. Submitting work for Assessment. I have my Learning Log and my Tutor reports for all my assignments. I only have the Question and Answer sheets for the last three assignments; I don't know if these are essential but I suppose I will need to call the OCA and find out what the situation would be if the missing ones are not available. I think I need a bit of luck and a fair wind behind me. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Submitting work for Assessment. Bruce Gill's...
40: Using a meter | fotothingy
https://fotothingy.wordpress.com/2010/01/17/40-using-a-meter
Project 38: measuring the intensity of light. Project 42: Judging colour temperature. 40: Using a meter. The purpose of this project was to use the camera as a meter rather than letting it control exposure. Still, I’m determined to do all the projects I can physically manage, to glean as much practice and as many insights from the course as possible. I enjoyed searching out light/dark images, where the meter readings would be inadequate. Below are results of that exercise. This was the camera’s aut...
Project 38: measuring the intensity of light | fotothingy
https://fotothingy.wordpress.com/2010/01/10/38-intensity-of-light
40: Using a meter. Project 38: measuring the intensity of light. Last Saturday I grabbed the double opportunity provided by the sunny weather and my new years hangover (i’d cancelled all other plans) and took an hourly light reading over the course of Saturday, 2 Jan. The readings at 11.30 and 12.30 were off due to some high clouds, but amazingly it was sunny on Sunday too, so I was able to grab the readings for the missed hours then. Feed for this Entry. On January 10, 2010. 40: Using a meter. You are c...
Rubie 43: July 2011
http://rubie43.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Friday, 22 July 2011. We had a very wet holidayin Brittany this year and it was not conducive to sketching or painting. I took some photos and have just started to work on them in photoshop. This was a detail taken from the original photograph. I loved these little sailing boats anchored just off shore. The sails just sang against the sea. I'll be doing some more of these and maybe taking them into some paintings later on. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Rubie 43: Ancient Stones
http://rubie43.blogspot.com/2013/05/ancient-stones.html
Thursday, 9 May 2013. Ever since we went to Carnac in Brittany I have been obsessed with ancient monoliths and Stone Age sites. I took many photographs at the time and these have been brewing away in my subconscious. I made a tiny photobook of the trip we made to Quiberon and the surrounding area and occasionally I pull this little treasure out to look at the images. Recently we were given a project in my painting class following the popularity of the book 50 Shades of Grey - notably unread by all of us!

Saturday, 11 April 2009. The wind was incredible on the first day. The picture above captures it, I've never seen anything like it. It was like we were standing in the sea.
