William Beuther Photography: September 2012

Wednesday, September 5, 2012. Which One Is Real? When I came upon these masks in a store window while strolling down a narrow street on a cloudy day in Venice, this is what I saw. My eyes were riveted on the masks. I found the range of emotion they displayed to be compelling. Inanimate objects expressing human emotions, and expressing them very well. And the reflections of buildings and passersby in the plate glass window added an ethereal touch. I waited for a break in the crowd and took just one photo.

Wednesday, March 27, 2013. I recently attended a training session by David Guy Maynard on using speed lights for location portraiture. He brought along a couple of professional models that we photographed after his presentation. The problem was that twenty or so of us were standing side-by-side using our camera-mounted lights. So I decided to crank up my ISO, turn down my flash, and move to the side so I could use his modeling light to backlight the subject. Links to this post. Monday, March 18, 2013.

Friday, August 29, 2014. I love the wild horses of the Outer Banks in North Carolina. I believe this infrared image of a horse grazing on the sparse vegetation symbolizes the wonderful freedom we enjoy. Colorizing the original black and white adds a sense of drama for me, especially in the sky. I also enjoy the image in its original black and white. Either way, the image speaks to me and I want to share it with others. Click here to see more of my work. Links to this post. Wednesday, August 27, 2014.

Wednesday, February 27, 2013. I recently met Nancy, a photographer friend, at a meeting where we began talking about different aspects of photography, including the use of fisheye lenses. When I told her I had straightened such a photo, she asked how and I told her I would post the answer on my blog. The (almost) finished image is above. I may crop it before printing so it looks something like this. This is my original. The lens costs $280 at Adorama.com and I enjoy using it. Links to this post. Awesome ...

Wednesday, February 5, 2014. The Cotswolds, an officially designated Area Of Natural Beauty, was one of the places I visited on a two week walking tour in England. These wonderful old buildings are in Oxford, home of the famous university. Americans and British do have differences in spite of sharing a language. On one walk, a group of locals asked where we were from. When we replied the United States, they said, "We know. Where in the states? I loved the beautiful old trees. A Spot of Rain. This is the ...

Thursday, September 26, 2013. What a fabulous experience! Photographing an Indian engagement celebration spread over two days. Words almost fail me, but not quite. Elegant, colorful, exotic, beautiful, and enchanting come to mind. I love the richness and beauty of Indian culture and rituals. I love the acceptance and friendliness of everyone I met. As always, I consider it a great honor to be asked to photograph such an event. My clients are clients, but I also consider them to be friends.

Sunday, October 21, 2012. I recently returned from a two week walking trip in the Cotswolds and Cornwall regions of southwest England. The area abounds with photo ops. All of the images in this post are from the Cotswolds. Several of the photos, including the one above, were taken with my infrared camera on those rare days we had sunshine. The first three photos were taken in Kelmscott, a small and very picturesque village. I could have spent hours in the churchyard cemetery in Chipping Campden.

Wednesday, August 27, 2014. In the past few weeks, two of my photographs have been selected for publication. While my work has appeared in print before, it was either images of local events in area newspapers or commissioned portraits I did for a national trade publication. This is the first time I have had any of my fine art work published and I am very excited! Appeared in the August issue of Eye on Fine Art. Magazine, which featured street photography. Labels: Artists of Rubber city.
