Photography by Mike Buchholz. Sunday, February 28, 2010. Two straight weeks, two straight failed attempts at reaching the summit of Whiteface. Scaled the ledges just fine with the ice axe and crampons, but with several feet of fresh powder up top, we simply ran out of time. I was probably no more than a couple hundred yards from the summit when I turned back. This mountain is one frustrating winter climb. We luckily were able to follow old tracks most of the way up. Sun came out just for this opening.

Where else is a 'lunch combo' a sandwich, donut, and coffee? What kind of combination of foods is that? The donuts are a little Krispy Kreme, but the sandwiches taste 100% homemade. This has got to be the only food establishment I've come across that actually manages to have more locations in a given area than McDonalds. Sunday, May 30, 2010.

At one point, hikers were taking pictures of the cog boxcar while passengers on-board were taking pictures of us hikers. The trails were well-kept.
