Between Friday 19th March and Sunday 21st March the annual Wairarapa Balloon Festival takes place in both Carterton and Masterton. The festival is open:. Friday 19th : 7am to 8.30am, 5pm to 7pm, 8pm to 8.15pm. Saturday 20th : 7am to 8.30am, 6.30pm to 9pm. Sunday 21st : 7am to 8.30am. The balloons launch around 7.15am each morning.

At 10am the curtian raiser to the events will be the First Great Sidewalk Chariot Race (Open to all seniors) with prizes.
