Monday, August 11, 2008. Elephants in the Shrubbery. So what is it about wild animals that makes us want to bring them back into our environment in this way? And why exactly did we want to get rid of them so completely in the first place? The answer to the second question is obvious. They're dangerous. They threaten our safety, our structures, our livestock and pets. They get in the way, they destroy our property and they make a mess. So why do we want to keep their likenesses in our yards and homes?
